MEAL Assistant - Generic Advertisement

CARE established its presence in Lebanon in 2006 and has been responding to the Syrian Crisis since late 2012.  CARE currently carries out activities in Beirut, Mount Lebanon, Akkar, North Lebanon, South Lebanon, and the Beqaa Valley. CARE implements both emergency and development projects contributing to livelihood, food security, protection, gender, shelter, and water, sanitation and hygiene. It targets the most vulnerable people and populations, host communities, refugees and migrants.

CARE Lebanon has scaled up rapidly over the past few years and today it has about 90 staff members, with more than 15 different local/international partner organizations. 90% of the team is composed of national staff, with a symbolic number of international members.

Among CARE’s key imperatives in Lebanon is putting people it serves first through implementing cutting edge programming in areas it operates, with great emphasis on the Accountability to Affected Population.

The MEAL Assistant will design tools, and lead on data cleaning, validation, and reporting on various projects and assessments. S/he will support in ensuring quality and accountability standards are integrated into CARE International’s programming and the monitoring of the activities.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

JOB RESPONSIBILITY 1: Monitoring (50% of time)

In collaboration with the MEAL officer, lead on the development of surveys and data collection tools on Kobo, ensuring the mainstreaming of Gender & Protection

Input, extract and clean extracted data from Kobo

Assist in reporting on Activity Info, and IPTT

Support the establishment of beneficiary trackers and datasets, disaggregated by gender, age and disability, & as per program requirements

Cleaning GIS data

Collect data, monitor project activities and assist various projects’ focal points in the compilation of data, through field visits and remote modalities

Train and follow up on the enumerators & data collectors as needed

Ensure data quality and the proper storing of MEAL related documentation

Support the MEAL team in data requests and analysis, notably on analysis and trends

JOB RESPONSIBILITY 2: Evaluation & Assessments (50% of time)

Provide feedback when necessary to the Programs teams for improved design & quality implementation

Support the implementation of data processes evaluations, best practices, and lessons learned

Support field assessments and the recruitment of enumerators & data collectors

In case of emergency, the MEAL Assistant will support the different teams to run rapid assessments and will be able to deploy quickly to the field where and when required

Any other task related to MEAL as assigned by the Line Manager.

Skills & knowledge:

• Experience in data cleaning and reporting

• Extensive knowledge in Microsoft word and excel, Power point, and Kobo or similar data collection software

• Extensive experience interacting with and relating to gender professionals and international stakeholders at senior level

• Team player with strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong internal relationships and networks

• Motivated self-starter who enjoys working in a collaborative and international environment

• Able to work under pressure and manage variable workload

• Adapt to changing environment

• Demonstrate fairness and impartiality

• Verbal and written communication

• Team player

• Ability to solve problem/work independently

• Ability to strictly adhere to task deadlines

• Previous experience in working in Food Security and Livelihood or Gender and Protection sectors is a plus

 Experience:

At least   1-3  years of relevant experience, especially at NGOs, academic organizations, public agencies focused on humanitarian work, social sciences, and community engagement.

Academic background

A BA in social sciences, statistics, or any other equivalent field
