1. Background of the Organization
CARE is an international humanitarian and development organization without religious, political or government affiliation. CARE is committed to protecting and promoting the rights of vulnerable girls and boys, women and men and improving the lives of refugees and host communities alike.
CARE works at national, municipality and at the community level to develop customized solutions and ensure long-term sustainability as well as respond to basic needs. We design projects that fall into alignment with national priorities and be owned by communities. Our interventions range across clean water, affordable sanitation and community healthcare and sexual and reproductive health rights programs, economic opportunities, and protection. Across program areas, CARE’s activities are guided by a rights-based, holistic, gender-sensitive/transformative, and inclusive approach.
CARE International has been operational in Lebanon since 2013 and works across the country.
2. Terms of Reference
CARE is seeking a Self Defense Trainer to equip beneficiaries (women and girls) with knowledge and techniques that would aim them in protecting themselves in times of violence. The trainer is expected to deliver a set of 4 session of training course to group of women and girls in Beirut, Mount Lebanon, and North.
The typical responsibilities of the Self Defense Trainer include:
• The trainer must create comprehensive self-defense sessions and activities.
• The trainer should be able to provide sessions relevant to GBV program and Mission, such as self-defense against physical attack and/or assault.
• The trainer must prepare the sessions with sensitivity towards customs and traditions (such as not to ask anyone to remove their veil, or touch anyone without their consent)
3. Qualifications:
• The trainer must be aware about topics regarding GBV and activist against violence against women.
• The trainer must have completed a certified course in self-defense.
• The trainer needs to be familiar with several self-defense schools of thought.
• Experience 3 to 5 years.
• Fluent in Arabic and English.
4. Timeframe
This is one-time valid contract for 6 months (renewable based on funds and performance), trainer will be paid on a session basis.
