Children Caregiver - Day and Night Shift

POSITION OBJECTIVE: 

A Child Caregiver contributes to the psychological and physiological well-being of the Children at the Shelter and provides them with daily learning activities and programs.

DUTIES:

  • Look after the basic needs of children, such as dressing, feeding, bathing, changing the diaper, accompanying them to the bathroom and supervising their playtime
  • Maintain a safe “home away from home”, sanitary, and clean environment for the children under their care
  • Prepare and organize mealtimes and snacks for kids; ensure that children have enough to eat
  • Provide a beneficial learning environment; i.e.: read and play with toddlers to introduce social skills and manners
  • Use storytelling and rhyming games to teach language and vocabulary
  • Help young children learn through creative group activities such as art, dance and music
  • Help children with homework
  • Create routines to make sure that children have a balanced amount of physical activity, rest and playtime
  • Monitor children for any safety concerns, while they are playing alone or with other children
  • Combine playtime with other instructional strategies to aid the development of children
  • Watch carefully for any signs of emotional or development issues with children by drawing the attention of the concerned staff regarding any inappropriate behavior that might occur
  • Create a positive relationship with children and other staff
  • Engage in active communication to help keep children safe and make them feel cared for

  • Excellent Communication and Interpersonal Skills
  • Active Listening Skills
  • Patience with both of children and colleagues specifically in urgent and sensitive matters
  • Diplomatic personality that motivates children to feel comfortable around the Caregiver
  • Multi-tasking Skills and ability to work under pressure

EXPERIENCE & KNOWLEDGE:

  • 1 to 2 years in previous experience in taking care of children and/or refugee children
