Sewing Trainer - Furn El Cheback

Job Summary:

The Sewing Trainer will provide specific Sewing training for participants registered in Caritas Lebanon centers located in Mount Lebanon/Furn el Chebback.

The training will be provided to a group of 40 beneficiaries per location segregated into 2 groups, comprising 20 beneficiaries each, on the basis of 40 days per group with the aim to produce 1000 Winterization Kits to be distributed to IDPs within the Collective Shelters.

Tasks and responsibilities:

  • Provide Sewing Training specifically on Production of Winterization Kits (e,g., Blankets, Covers, clothing, etc..)
  • Provide instruction on the basic stitching.
  • Use of basic patterns for Blankets, cushion covers, and clothing items.
  • Repairing damaged clothing and other alterations.
  • Use of basic machine and its maintenance.
  • Prepare course material and activities.
  • Helping beneficiaries improve their production skills via individual and group sessions.
  • Checking and assessing beneficiaries’' work.
  • Identify students with special requirements and create individualized plans.
  • Determine exam and assignment grades.
  • Provide feedback based on workload and classroom behavior.
  • Keep a record of students’ attendance and grades.
  • Evaluate the progress of the participants.

Contract type:

  • Short-term (6 months)

Experience required:

  • At least 1 year of teaching experience in the relevant job description.
  • Experience and high-level skills in the sewing machine and overlocker use, mending clothing, and use of patterns for making new clothing items.
  • Minimum understanding of human rights, and gender-based violence.
  • Be a resident of Lebanon, with the ability to work inside Lebanon.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Proven experience working as a tailor.
  • Sound knowledge of fabrics as well as Winterization and clothing design and construction.
  • The ability to use a sewing machine.
  • Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and time-management skills.
  • Outstanding sewing skills.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Able to prioritize and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to lead a classroom.

Languages and Computer skills:

  • Spoken and written English is strongly preferred
