Background
The Center for Civic Engagement and Community Service (CCECS)
at the American University of Beirut (AUB) will implement an
intensive college-readiness course that prepares refugees and vulnerable
Lebanese youth for entry into higher education. This six-week program will
provide foundational academic course work in English & IT. This project is
funded by UK aid through SPHEIR and in partnership with King’s College
London, Al Al Bayt University, Kiron Open Higher Education, and FutureLearn.
Key
areas of Responsibility
· Deliver the
English language class, which is 4 days per week in the morning
from 8:30 am-1:00pm in person up to 25 students
· prepare lesson plans and extra assignments
· prepare testing and assessment as required
· provide feedback and communicating effectively with students
· Delivering the material in a technology-enhanced format by
utilizing online materials
· Reporting
with project management team regularly
· Taking
part in occasional training and evaluation sessions
Key
Characteristics and Qualifications
· Experience teaching English in a high school (grade 12),
university, or training institute
· Relevant academic degree in English or Education
· Skilled in engaging learners with diverse previous educational
experience
· Passionate
about working with young people and disadvantaged communities
· Fluency
in English (spoken and written)
· Good
facilitation and time management skills
· previous
experience using online resources and technology in the classroom is a plus
