LAWYER CONSULTANT WITH CLDH
Terms of Reference
Under the supervision of the Center’s director, in coordination with the detention coordinator, the other lawyers and the assistant, the lawyer consultant with CLDH can be requested to:
Provide legal consultations at CLDH premises:
Welcome the beneficiaries at CLDH
Counsel the beneficiaries regarding their file, their legal status in Lebanon or any other legal issue they may have (housing, evictions, land and rent disputes; civil cases; domestic violence; birth registration; cases of early marriage and recognition of documentation; legal status; renewal of documentation; etc.).
Follow the cases at General Security, in front of the Judiciary and any other relevant institutions.
Defend the beneficiaries in courts:
Act as private lawyer (with a power of attorney),
Defend the beneficiaries with the same level of expertise and professionalism as he/she would with any other client, paying even more attention to the fact that the beneficiaries often don’t have relatives who could inform the lawyer of any new development.
Present appeals to courts decisions.
Other legal proceedings:
Assist detainees in police stations
Apply for having the sentences of the prisoner run concurrently
Apply for a reduction of the amount of the bail
Close old arrest warrants that could have remained in the detainee’s file.
Follow-up on administrative detention:
Follow-up detentions at the General Security
Coordinate with relevant institutions
Facilitate release or departure according to the needs
