Trainer on Human rights and facilitation skills

 

1. BACKGROUND:

The Lebanese Center for Human Rights (CLDH) is a local non-profit, non-partisan Lebanese human rights organization based in Beirut. CLDH was created in 2006 by the Franco-Lebanese Movement SOLIDA (Support for Lebanese Detained Arbitrarily), which has been active since 1996 in the struggle against arbitrary detention, enforced disappearance and the impunity of those perpetrating gross human rights violations. CLDH monitors the human rights situation in Lebanon, fights enforced disappearance, impunity, arbitrary detention and racism and rehabilitates the victims of torture.

CLDH is also a founding member of the Euro-Mediterranean Federation against Enforced Disappearance (FEMED), a member of the Euro-Mediterranean Network of Human Rights (REMDH) and a member of the SOS Torture Network of the World Organization against Torture (OMCT).

 

Project Summary:

 

In 2012, CLDH established a legal aid program with the aim to provide legal consultations, representation before courts, institutions and security services for vulnerable migrants, refugees, asylum seekers, and Lebanese citizens. Since its inception, the programme has been supported by various donors and has achieved significant results.

Through this project, CLDH aims to continue providing support to the most vulnerable groups (including Syrian refugees in Lebanon, Palestinian refugees, Migrant Domestic Workers, LGBTIQ individuals, victims of torture, and others).

 

 

Job Profile:

 

Within the direction of  the Program Manager, the consultancy aims
to Developing and delivering two-days training to a group of 20 participants including junior lawyers and law students. The participants will be trained on the following six topics:

Torture

LGBT

Women’s right

Refugees civil and political rights

Migrants and domestic workers

Stateless and nationality procedures  

 

Your Contribution:

 

Developing the training’s content and teaching aids including the agenda, training methodology, handouts, evaluation forms and pre and posttests) which will be discussed and approved by CLDH team.

Identifying the elements of each of the following topics:

 

Definition of torture, legally and psychologically

LGBT

Women’s right

Refugees (civil and political rights)

Migrants + domestic workers

Stateless and nationality

The relevant articles in international law

Provision of a brief background on CAT and OPCAT and the binding nature of the state’s obligation and the judicial application under CAT/OPCAT as well as other international laws and conventions.

Assessment of how law can be transformed into an agent of reform.

Analyze the role of law on the following three elements:

Protection of rights

Regulation of behavior/conduct

Law as an agent of social reform

 

 

 

Key Deliverables:

After the delivery of the training, the trainer is expected to submit to CLDH a report, based on the template provided by CLDH, that includes a concise presentation of the training session content and the applied methodology as well as his feedback on participation, level of interest and the most important issues raised throughout the training sessions.(The trainer is also expected to design the training evaluation forms, and the pre and posttests of the training).

Minimum Qualification and other Requirements:

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Political science, law, social work or any other field related to humanities or social sciences.

Experience: At least three years of similar work experience is required. Candidate should be able to work independently – with minimum supervision and guidance from supervisors. Demonstrated and extensive facilitation/training experience.
