About CeSSRA

CeSSRA is an action-oriented, non-profit research center for and about civil society. We are a multidisciplinary space creating synergies and bridging between researchers, experts, civil society and NGO practitioners, and activists. CeSSRA aims to foster social change through innovative uses of social science, digital technologies, and publication and exchange of knowledge.

Main Tasks

The Researcher produces scientific knowledge, contributes to the uptake of research results and underscoring their significance to diverse audiences, and disseminates scientific information in a variety of outputs.

The Researcher’s main tasks include

  • Develop, using a range of research methodologies including qualitative, quantitative, or mixed methods as relevant, analytical outputs examining public policies as well as political participation processes of countries across the SWANA;
  • Undertake field research using a variety of methodologies and techniques;
  • Analyse and produce a variety of knowledge products, including analytical reports, strategic briefs, policy papers, reflection notes, short articles, blog posts, communication and infographic materials, etc.;
  • Disseminate research findings in knowledge-sharing events and other relevant platforms;
  • Contribute to reviewing and editing the centre’s content and publications for quality, coherence, and consistency before dissemination;
  • Coordinate and follow up on research-related activities;
  • Contribute to the visibility of the centre’s research and publications;
  • Identify synergies and opportunities across SWANA and globally to enhance cross-regional learning, alliance building, and knowledge exchange in line with the centre’s mandate;
  • Perform other related tasks as needed.

Qualifications

  • Masters degree in social sciences is required (sociology, political science, anthropology, development studies, or related fields). PhD candidates are encouraged to apply;
  • At least 5 years of relevant experience in research. A more junior profile may be considered if relevant experience is demonstrated;
  • Excellent research and analytical skills with a strong academic and publication record;
  • Demonstrated experience in social sciences and qualitative research methods. Familiarity with quantitative tools and mixed methods is an asset;
  • Outstanding writing and editing skills, with the ability to produce rigorous analysis and well-targeted strategic and policy recommendations;
  • Capacity to receive, process, and incorporate feedback
  • Strong understanding of the SWANA regional context;
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to work independently;
  • Fluency in English and Arabic is required. French is an asset.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including facilitation and a strong capacity for collaborative work.
