Mediation Skillset for Youth Workers Working with Migrants

"Mediation Skillset for Youth Workers Working with Migrants" is a resource package developed within the "DEVMIGRA – Development of Mediation Skillset for Youth Workers for Migrants" project, funded by Erasmus+ Capacity Building in the Field of Youth. The project was implemented by a consortium of four partner organizations: Asociación Juvenil Intercambia (Spain), MV International (Italy), Chabibeh Sporting Club (Lebanon), and Jordan Youth Innovation Forum (Jordan).

The project aimed to strengthen the capacities of youth workers, trainers, educators, and cultural mediators to support the social inclusion, wellbeing, and skills recognition of young migrants, refugees, and asylum seekers through mediation skills and non-formal education (NFE) methodologies.

This package brings together the three intellectual outputs developed by the project:

1. DEVMIGRA Manual – Mediation Skills for Youth Operators
The Manual provides the theoretical and methodological foundations of the DEVMIGRA approach. It includes an overview of migration challenges, best practices from the partner countries, mediation concepts, non-formal education methodologies, public speaking techniques, digital storytelling approaches, and practical learning activities for youth workers.

2. DEVMIGRA Training Format
The Training Format translates the Manual into a structured learning program. It contains training modules, learning objectives, facilitation guidance, case studies, workshops, and evaluation methods that can be used by trainers and organizations to deliver capacity-building activities for youth workers working with migrants.

3. DEVMIGRA Toolkit
The Toolkit is the practical implementation resource of the project. Developed through a co-design process involving youth workers and young migrants, it offers ready-to-use educational activities, templates, facilitation tools, and evaluation instruments that can be directly applied in youth centres, community organizations, migration facilities, and non-formal learning settings.

How to use this package
Users are encouraged to start with the Manual to understand the theoretical framework and methodologies, continue with the Training Format to design and deliver learning activities, and finally use the Toolkit to implement practical exercises and interventions with young migrants. Together, the three resources provide a comprehensive and transferable framework for strengthening mediation skills, fostering social inclusion, supporting psychosocial wellbeing, and promoting the recognition of young migrants’ competences and potential.
