Chief of party (COP) for the live USAID/Lebanon Agriculture and Rural Empowerment (ARE) project

Chemonics seeks a chief of party (COP) for the live USAID/Lebanon Agriculture and Rural Empowerment (ARE) project. This five-year, $50-60 million project aims to develop rural economies in Lebanon through support to the agro-food sector and other industries to unlock local and export sales potential while also creating jobs and increasing farmers’ and workers’ incomes. ARE will work with agribusinesses and rural value chain stakeholders to improve product quality and drive growth at the farm, processing, packaging, and sales levels.

The COP is responsible for leading all aspects of contract performance, providing technical guidance to all tasks under the contract, and representing Chemonics’ activities to outside audiences. We are looking for individuals who have a passion for making a difference in the lives of people around the world.

Responsibilities include:

Provide leadership, technical direction, and day-to-day operation oversight and administration for all project activities and results

Lead the strategic planning of the project, including annual work plans, and provide overall vision and strategic planning for implementation

Ensure effective engagement coordination with private sector partners, business associations, universities, and donor communities

Ensure project compliance with all contractual and administrative requirements, with support from home office and operations/finance team

Maintain a professional and productive partnership with USAID

Facilitate close collaboration and teamwork, including mentorship and development of a team of local technical and administrative staff

 

Qualifications:

Advanced degree or equivalent in a relevant field to the technical direction of ARE; in circumstances where a candidate possesses exceptional relevant experience but lacks an advanced degree, relevant post-education experience might be considered

A minimum of seven years of recent experience (within the last 15 years) at a senior level on a successful project(s) similar in scope and scale to ARE, with experience in agri-business and market-systems approaches, rural and peri-urban economies, productive sectors and other relevant topics

A minimum of five years of recent senior management experience (within the last 15 years) for projects including private sector with similar magnitude and complexity in developing countries

Proven ability to perform and achieve results under challenging or non-permissive environments

Strong interpersonal, managerial, and written communication skills

Demonstrated leadership, versatility, and integrity

Fluent English required; fluency in Arabic is preferred
