Deputy Chief of Party for the LIVE Lebanon Agriculture and Rural Empowerment (ARE) Activity

Chemonics seeks a deputy chief of party/chief technical officer for the Lebanon Agriculture and Rural Empowerment (ARE) activity. This five-year, $50 to 60 million project aims to develop rural economies in Lebanon through support to the agro-food sector and other industries to unlock local and export sales potential while also creating jobs and increasing farmers’ and workers’ incomes. ARE will work with agribusinesses and rural value chain stakeholders to improve product quality and drive growth at the farm, processing, packaging, and sales levels.

In collaboration with the chief of party, the deputy chief of party/chief technical officer will contribute to the overall technical direction and management of ARE’s activities. We are looking for individuals who have a passion for making a difference in the lives of people around the world.  

Responsibilities include:

Ensure that activity components are results-oriented, that deliverables are high-quality, and that reporting is relevant and timely

Focus on achieving results in all areas on schedule and ensuring synergies and cohesion between the various result areas

Participate and engage in technical meetings and maintain positive relationships with Government of Lebanon officials, partners, and implementing partners

Work with the business development officer to ensure that proper sub-sectoral technical aspects are incorporated in the activity’s grants and technical assistance

 

Qualifications:

A bachelor’s degree or equivalent in relevant fields such as agricultural economics, rural development or others; although experience will be valued more highly than academic trainings, candidates with a graduate degree or less, but possessing relevant post-education experience, will be considered

A minimum of seven years of recent relevant experience (within the last 12 years) in technically leading activities related to agri-business, markets systems, and/or rural development with demonstrated results

Experience in program management, either as chief of party, deputy chief of party, or comparable role required

Experience in Lebanon or other fragile and conflict-affected countries preferred

Demonstrated competency in negotiation and communication skills and excellent interpersonal, managerial, and written communication skills

Flexibility and ability to interact with rural communities of different backgrounds and ability to manage delivering work under non-permissive conditions

Demonstrated leadership, versatility, and integrity

Fluency in English and Arabic required
