Internship Title: Procurement Intern
Reporting to: Procurement Specialist
Period of internship: 3 months
Number of current internships: Two – One intern to be hired immediately and second intern to be hired based on needs by end of 2021
Project Background
The Lebanon Agriculture and Rural Empowerment (ARE) program is a multi-year project funded by USAID to develop rural economies in Lebanon through support to the agro-food sector and other industries to unlock local and export sales potential while also creating jobs and increasing farmers’ and worker’s incomes. ARE will increase jobs; improve incomes; improve female participation and employment opportunities; increase domestic and export sales; increase private sector investment; improve access to finance; link value chain actors to domestic and international markets; and improve farm production through improved practices, technology, increased volume, and/or decreased cost, sales potential while also creating jobs and increasing farmers’ and workers’ incomes.
Summary of Internship
Through its network with local universities, champion firms and other related private sector stakeholders, the ARE internship program aims to provide young students and fresh Business/Economics/Management/Law/International Affairs or relevant field graduates the opportunity to gain a better understanding of Chemonics and USAID mandates and programs and to supplement their academic knowledge with a practical work experience in the procurement sector in Lebanon.
Responsibilities and tasks
- Updating supplier data base
- Updating payment tracking sheet
- Sourcing new suppliers through Online Research
- Assist on photocopying, scanning & archiving procurement files
- Follow-up internally between departments on procurement related transactions
- On behalf of the procurement department, follow up with the suppliers upon the actual delivery of the items or any related documents needed (Contracts, Invoices, etc…)
- Oher tasks as assigned by the line manager
Place of Assignment
The intern can work remotely, however is welcome to work from ARE’s program office space in Beirut and will be expected to travel to areas of operation throughout the country as needed and in line with Chemonics’ COVID-19 prevention guidelines.
Reporting
The intern will report directly to the ARE Procurement Specialist.
Eligibility criteria
Under this Internship Program, applicants will be considered based on the criteria below.
All Interns must:
- Nationality: Lebanese
- Age: candidates should be between the ages of 18 and 25 years of age
- Education:
Student enrolled in Business/Economics/Management/Law/International Affairs or a related field (2nd and 3rd year)
Have completed one year of full-time study;
Student enrolled in Master’s Business/Economics/Management/Law/International Affairs or a related field
University graduate Business/Economics/Management/Law/International Affairs or related field (up to 3 years)
- Language: Arabic (native language), English is a must, French is a plus
- Skills: candidates should be able to adapt to an international multicultural environment, have good communication and writing skills, ability to work independently and under pressure, open to learning, environment team player with demonstrable self-initiative and drive
- Computer literacy: Microsoft Windows, proficient use of processing tools such as Microsoft Office package (Word, Excel and PowerPoint) is required.
