1. Project Background
The Lebanon Community Support Program (CSP) is a multi-year project funded by USAID to support municipalities and underserved and vulnerable communities in providing better services and enhanced economic opportunities to improve lives and reduce tensions that contribute to conflict and violence, primarily in Lebanon’s North, South, and Bekaa regions.
2. Summary of Position
The expert is expected to provide a maximum of two days training to build the capacity of the farmers in Saidoun on the best pruning and grafting techniques related to the following trees: grapes, olives, pomegranates, apples, and almonds.
3. Specific Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide an onsite practical training (a maximum of two days) to the farmers in Saidoun on
- Pruning of the abovementioned trees.
The training will include but should not be limited to the below:
- The purpose of pruning
- Different pruning techniques
- Best pruning techniques related to the trees
- Best timing to prune the trees
- Selection of the branches that should be pruned
- Directions and safety precautions to take during pruning
- Grafting of the abovementioned trees.
The training will include but should not be limited to the below:
- Purpose of grafting
- Different grafting techniques
- Best grafting techniques
- Best timing to graft the trees in subject
- Directions and safety precautions to take during grafting
During the training the expert must allow the farmers time to practice the techniques explained, if possible, and must address all the queries raised by the farmers.
The training will be provided onsite in Saidoun village.
4-Qualifications
- Bachelor degree in agriculture or equivalent experience in providing practical trainings to farmers on pruning and grafting.
- 5+ years of experience in agricultural practices
- Proven experience in pruning and grafting the above-mentioned trees
- Proven ability to work collaboratively across diverse sets of stakeholders
- Fluency in spoken and written Arabic
5-Eligibility Criteria
Interested individual experts shall have the capacity to enter a short-term technical assistance (STTA) contract and shall have a satisfactory performance record and record of integrity and business ethics.
6-Ineligible Experts:
- Government employees.
- Individual experts that appear on the List of Parties Excluded from Federal Procurement and Non-Procurement Programs.
7. Place of Assignment
Saidoun Village.
8. Reporting
The experts will be reporting to TO 3 Senior Capacity Building Manager
