Engineer (Shelter) (National Candidates only)

CISP is active in Lebanon where it is implementing projects funded by different Donors. Among them, a project funded by the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS) aimed at supporting the population affected by the explosions at the port of Beirut of 04/08/2021 in the area of Borj Hammoud.

Sectors of activity: Shelter, WASH (hygiene promotion), economic recovery.

CISP is opening a selection for an Engineer for project’s shelter activities.

The Engineer will assist the CISP Project Coordinator in the implementation, management and co-ordination of the Project in terms of:

  • Identification and need assessments in the sectors WASH and SHELTER, in close coordination with, and under indication of, the Field Officer and Project Coordinator;
  • Provision of needs assessment, measurements and technical assistance, including drafting the technical document (BoQs with specifications, drawings, etc.) for the preparation/finalization of the Shelter Rehabilitation works;
  • Estimation of cost for the proposed works to verify they all fit within the allocated budgets;
  • Support to Procurement activities (including preparation of technical specifications and Bill of Quantities for supply and works contracts);
  • Participation in the bidding committees for bids opening, checking, analysis and decision making (award or rejection);
  • Attendance to project related meetings;
  • Supervision visits to all project sites under construction to ensure that works are done according to the design and mistakes are promptly corrected;
  • Production of relevant documents to certify progresses of works in support of release of payments and/or acceptance of works;
  • Verification of all materials delivered and utilized for the implementation of the works before their installation, in order to ensure their compliance of the technical specifications of the works provided by CISP;
  • Represent CISP towards partners, stakeholders and contractors in the limit of the hereby described mandate;
  • Coordination between partner/s contractors and the Project Coordinator to solve any problem when arising and to amend the scope of works, the design or the drawings/details if necessary;
  • Monitoring that all safety regulations are being properly implemented.

The position requires to interact with persons of different background. As such the candidate would be calm and polite while rigorous and precise in doing the job.

Furthermore, the Engineer must be ready to be flexible, as the work programme might be subject to sudden changes.

Confidentiality: the position give access to personal information of potential beneficiaries that must be treated carefully and that cannot be shared and disclosed out of the CISP team.

The candidate’s requirements:

Essential:

  • Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree in engineering (related to construction);
  • Professional experience with minimum of 2 years of collaboration with NGO(s) in shelter interventions;
  • Very good knowledge of Sector standards for Humanitarian response;
  • Good knowledge of English;
  • Good knowledge of Office package and AutoCad;
  • Valid driving license and good driving skills;
  • Team Spirit.

Desirable:

  • Bachelor’s or Master degree in Civil Engineering
  • Good communication and mediation skills;
  • Problem solving.

Languages: Fluent in both Arabic and English

Period: Recruitment is planned to be completed by end of August 2021 and the procedure of evaluation foresees a test for the shortlisted candidates.
