Hygiene And Sanitation Assistant

Job Summary The main purpose of the position is, under the management of the Team Leader, implement Concern’s WASH activities in formal/informal tented settlements and/or collective centres and/or host community projects.  There will be a number of staff in the programme and they will operate at the site level.  As such, this role includes gathering information and data which is crucial to the design of new interventions, increasing Concern’s understanding of (and capacity to respond to) emerging issues as well as routine monitoring of Concern’s activities.  In order to ensure that all the skill sets are covered within the site teams, within the role of field officers and animators are some generic responsibilities mostly around support to, and mobilisation of, refugee communities; oversight and monitoring of infrastructure construction; conduct assessments; and general coordination; we well as areas of specialisation in hygiene promotion and water quality treatment and testing. Concern will build capacity of the staff to help equip them to undertake their role with confidence.     Duties and Responsibilities  Mobilize refugees to participate in the HP planning and different activities Choose community mobilisers fitting the criteria needed to participate in the HP planning of activities. Raise the capacity building of community mobilisers to train the refugees. Focus group discussions with beneficiaries about their prior needs. Referral of medical cases, new arrivals or new ITS to the relevant persons. Mobilize refugees to take responsibility for  permanent maintenance of water supply, latrines and bathing facilities in order to promote ownership Identify most vulnerable families who will require support to construct/install sanitation and bathing facilities to be reported to the WASH team. Link between refugee community and Concern through permanent field visits or contact on Concern’s hotline.       Conduct assessments and gather data/information as required Permanent assessment of the data (registering new families, removing the ones who left, etc.) and sites monitoring. Registration of new ITS located in Concern’s area Focus group discussions with refugees/host community when needed   Implement hygiene activities at site level Develop hygiene promotion messages and Information, Education and Communication (IEC) tools based on experiences of other agencies and refugee requirements Create new IEC materials and assisting in developing new HP approaches. Undertake Knowledge, Attitudes, Practice (KAP) surveys with sample refugee population as part of site baseline and endline data profile as required Organise community, and possibly household, meetings and disseminate hygiene promotion messages to adults and children. Record and monitor participation of refugees in hygiene promotion, ensuring maximum participation Report on Hygiene Promotion activities to Team Leader, surfacing issues and successes, and including numbers and profile of participants Distribute hygiene kits and other materials to refugees as per Concern’s distribution practices Work with other Field Officers to trace sources of disease or contaminations in order to prevent further outbreaks Monitor the efficiency of the HP session through surveys and data analysis   To adhere to the standards of conduct outlines in the Programme Participant Protection Policy and Code of Conduct   Support Concern’s work in Lebanon by undertaking other tasks as appropriate and required     Skills, Qualifications, Experience and Attitude Required Fluent Arabic and very good in English Educated to degree level Strong communication, negotiation and mediation skills Experience of working in an NGO Working exprerience with children Understanding of the local context of Akkar Knowledge of hygiene promotion and sanitation issues affecting conflict affected people Experience in developing or delivering trainings Willingness to stay in the camps all the time. Report writing skills and computer skills in word processing and spreadsheets Commitment to humanitarian principles and values
