Audiovisual Communication Consultant-Video Editor

Project Background:

DAI seeks the services of an Audiovisual Communication Consultant-Video Editor for the USAID-funded “Lebanon Water Project” (LWP) a five-and-a-half-year project awarded in September 2015 and scheduled to end in March 2021. LWP works to increase reliable and sustainable access to potable water for Lebanese citizens; improve water management practices and enhance the efficiency and sustainability of public water utilities, while raising awareness on sustainable water use practices and promote better water governance to help assure long-term protection of Lebanon’s water resources.

 

Purpose:

The Audiovisual Communication Consultant-Video editor is responsible for creating and developing visual storytelling across multiple platforms. His/her role would be to help LWP produce compelling videos and photos that promote LWP’s achievements. They would be an excellent storyteller, video editor, script writer, and can communicate complex topics in an engaging way for both specialized audiences and social media audiences. The consultant should be innovative and self-driven and can connect with local communities and different stakeholders to provide the human interest and impact side of project activities. They will report to the Strategic Communication Team Lead to support the implementation of an effective communication strategy.

 

Responsibilities and Key Tasks:

  • Produce high quality photos and video films to inform and engage a local and international audience.
  • Use social media platforms, especially Facebook, to produce engaging text, photo, and video posts that attract viewers.
  • Ability to use proper judgment to identify shareable content on social media platforms.
  • Write engaging scripts and storyboards for videos and multimedia presentations.
  • Maintain and build an archive of all photos, footage, and videos that are produced.
  • Compile the best photos (poster quality) of each activity and deliver them to the Strategic Communication Team and/or the Team Lead on a monthly basis.
  • Attend in-person and virtual meetings, and brainstorming sessions, as related to photo and video assignments, whenever needed.
  • Assist the Communication and Outreach Team with other communication tasks related to video and photography assignments mandated by the project.
  • Work with existing video and photo library already archived on DAI servers to produce a final product for social media and other purposes.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Deliverables: 

Videos:

  • Up to 12 videos over a three month period using the LWP Database or aquiring new footage (most videos will be around 3 minutes)
  • 20 sec video "Stories" using the LWP Database or aquiring new footage (up to 10 videos)
  • 3 minute videos with 2-D animation using the LWP Database or aquiring new footage (up to 2 videos)

Photography and filming (Equipment provided)     

  • Half-day Photography (Less than 4 hours, with editing, captions, and archiving)
  • Full-day Photography (more than4 hours, with editing, captions, and archiving)
  • Half-day film shooting (Less than 4 hours + archiving)
  • Full-day film shooting (more than 4 hours + archiving)

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor degree or equivalent in cinematography, photography, audiovisual, or related disciplines.
  • Minimum of five years professional experience.
  • Ability to provide constructive and creative input for key messages delivery.
  • Ability to produce communication products using behavioral change communication.
  • Knowledge of audiovisual communication.
  • Experience producing 2-D animation short movies for awareness purposes.
  • Solid and hands-on experience in videography, photography, and editing.
  • Ability to produce engaging videos from A to Z, while relying on storytelling techniques, starting from filming, to interviewing, to script development, to editing, to captioning, to music selection and audio editing, to subtitling etc…
  • Well-versed in Adobe Premiere Pro, Adobe Lightroom, Adobe Photoshop, and other software for photography editing, video and audio editing and media output and encoding for different platforms. Excellent post-production skills.
  • Experience with producing AJ+ and World Economic Forum style videos, recommended.
  • Ability to direct interviewees so that they can help the consultant tell a story on video.
  • Excellent artistic skills, with a keen eye for cutting-edge videography, photography, imagery, layout, color, composition, lighting, music, and others.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and interviewing skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and team-oriented environment, as most assignments will involve several stakeholders, whether in the field or in-office.
  • Self-motivated and capable of taking initiatives and proposing and finding ideas and stories that help promote the successes of the project.
  • Graphic design experience is a plus.
  • Journalism reporting experience is a plus.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills. Experience with writing slogans is a plus.
  • Critical eye with attention to details.
  • Proficiency in both spoken and written Arabic and English.

 

Location and Reporting:

The Audiovisual Communication Consultant – Video Editor will be based in Jdeideh, Lebanon, and will be requested to work remotely for the majority of the time. The Audiovisual Communication Consultant will be reporting to the Strategic Communication Team Lead.
