1. Background
Background and objectives of project:The Lebanon Industry Value Chain Development - LIVCD is a five year program (2012 – 2017) funded by the United States Agency for International Development- USAID, and implemented under the leadership of Development Alternatives, Inc. (DAI). Its overall objective is to improve Lebanon’s economic stability and food security, especially in rural areas, and decrease rural migration.
The LIVCD Project aims to increase the competitiveness of several value chains, and expand the number of Micro and Small and Medium Enterprises that can compete in selected markets, improve linkages between those firms and other actors throughout the value chains, increase the gross value of products and services in local and export markets, and expand exports. The target value chains are Grapes, Olive Oil, Apple, Processed Foods, Honey, Rural Tourism, Cherries, Avocados and such items as zaatar, pine nuts, and free range eggs. LIVCD also works on cross-cutting components that have linkages with value chain activities: Access to Finance, Communications, Capacity Building, and Market Intelligence.
2. Scope of work
LIVCD is implementing a Beneficiary-Based annual Survey to collect and report the “change in the value of gross margin before and after LIVCD interventions, and as result of data collection, calculate and report the value of sales generated by beneficiaries (farmers and beekeepers) as a result of the project’s technical assistances.
LIVCD seeks the expertise of a Data analyst to support the Monitoring and Evaluation Unit to design the mentioned survey to be conducted during 2017. The process will include the following phases (tasks and deliverables), and specific responsibilities.

2. Survey Overview
Survey objective: LIVCD is implementing a Beneficiary-Based Survey to collect and report the “change in the value of gross margin” before and after LIVCD interventions, and as result of data collection, calculate and report the value of sales generated by beneficiaries (farmers and beekeepers) as a result of the project’s technical assistances
Survey Type: it is a comparative survey to be conducted to support and evaluate the impact of the project’s interventions. Baseline year value to be compared the fifth year value attributed the project’s activities and technical assistances.
Survey population of beneficiaries: the total direct beneficiaries of the project – Farmers and beekeepers. During 3 years on activities implementation, LIVCD has reached around 12,000 farmer and beekeeper beneficiaries (total population). The targeted farmers and beekeepers are actors in the following value chains; Grapes, Olive Oil, Apple, Processed Foods, Honey, Cherries, Avocados.
3. Deliverables
The Data analyst is expected to;
Develop the methodology of work including the preliminary profiling of the project’s beneficiaries and the sampling plan,
Conduct the data analysis using SAS, SPSS, or STATA format, and the production of estimates,
Generate requested results and participate the development of the final report.
Main audience of survey: LIVCD internal management, technical team and USAID representatives.
