Background
The USAID-funded Lebanon Water Project (LWP) is a five year project that works to increase reliable and sustainable access to potable water for Lebanese citizens; improve water management practices and enhance the efficiency and sustainability of public water utilities, while raising awareness on sustainable water use practices and promote better water governance to help assure long-term protection of Lebanon’s water resources.
General Objective
The Engineer (Junior) will work under the oversight of the Water Resources Management Team Lead. S/he will support the team during the implementation of the irrigation, wastewater, and water demand activities. S/he will assist both the infrastructure and institutional teams in support of their activities with the regional water establishments (RWEs).
Responsibilities
Under the management of the Water Resources Management Team Lead and in close collaboration with both the Infrastructure and Institutional Development team leads, the Engineer (Junior) will be responsible to undertake the following tasks:
- Support in the water demand management activities in the RWEs to include the following subtasks:
- Data collection and analysis including site visits in collaboration with RWE staff
- Data validation
- Development of tables and charts
- Collaborate with the infrastructure and the institutional teams to collect up-to-date data that will feed the development of the Water Demand Management Model
- Support engineering works during the design and implementation phase to include the following subtasks:
- Logistical and technical support as needed for the development, design, and implementation of irrigation related activities
- Logistics and technical support in the development, design, and implementation of wastewater activities
- Follow up on construction activities including documentation and site visits
- Other tasks as assigned
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, mechanical, or hydraulic engineering
- Relevant advanced degree preferred
- 0 – 3 years of relevant working experience preferred
- Basic knowledge in hydraulic calculations
- Working knowledge in Microsoft Office including Word and Excel
- Working knowledge in AutoCAD
- GIS experience is a plus
- Demonstrated communications and presentation skills
- Fluency in Arabic and English is required
- Relevant advanced degree preferred
