Adolescent Girls Volunteer

The main focus of today’s efforts in Lebanon is to help the hundreds of thousands of Syrian refugees, who have fled across the border to find protection from the conflict in their homeland. DRC is simultaneously maintaining the efforts toward the vulnerable groups of Palestinian refugees in Lebanon. More than 200.000 Syrian refugees have received assistance from the Danish Refugee Council since the beginning of the crisis.  For further information about DRC, please refer to our website: www.drc.ngo   About the job  The aim of this position is to support the adolescent girls assistants in the preparation and the conduction of the adolescent girls activities at the RDFL Women Resources Center in Baalback and its surrounding areas.   Duties  • Constant presence on the bus to assist the transportation of the adolescent girls from their homes to the center and then back from the center to their homes for the whole duration of the activities, while insuring their safety and wellbeing;  • Assist the AG assistants in co-facilitating the sessions, help preparing the material needed for the sessions, assist in group work and other assigned tasks;  • In coordination with the AG assistants, conduct community outreach visits to adolescent girls and their caregivers residing in the targeted area. Communicate with the adolescent girls in a protective manner ensuring the respect of their rights;  • Create a positive and trustful atmosphere while interacting with adolescent girls encouraging them to express their needs and ensuring their feeling of safety;  • Understand adolescent girls as the main actors in their own development and encourage them in decision making regarding matters that affect them; and listen to whatever the adolescent girls would like to say, help them express their feelings and needs and respond to it positively;  • Report any observed concerns linked to the adolescent girl to the AG assistant for necessary support or referral to other supportive network;  • Identify materials required for activities preferred by adolescent girls and children;  • Report to the AG assistants and supervisor information, suspects or observationsof children or adolescents at risk of abuse or mistreatment; About you  To be successful in this role you must haveability to work with refugees in underprivileged settings; creativity skills, excellent verbal and non-verbal communications skills especially with adolescent girls, excellent interpersonal skills, commitment to DRC values, vision, mission and code of conduct.   Ideally you will also have experience working with adolescent girls, computer skills, planning skills, problem solving skills, GBV experience, scouts experience.Minimum of 6 months relevant work experience. You must be available to start work from  April 2016 and be willing and able to work in Bekaa.  Salary and conditions will be in accordance with Danish Refugee Council’s Terms of Employment for National staff.
