Child Protection Officer - Akkar

The Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is a humanitarian, non-governmental and nonprofit organization, founded in 1956, that works in more than 30 countries around the world. DRC has been operating in Lebanon since 2004, working with Palestinian and Iraqi refugees, as well as Lebanese communities affected by the war in 2006. DRC is committed to basic humanitarian principles; including impartiality and neutrality, and offers the highest standards of accountability to the people it serves. DRC Lebanon has been assisting the Syrian displaced, fleeing Syria into northern Lebanon, since May 2011. This assistance has come through the provision of food and non-food items, various outreach activities (registration, follow-up and awareness sessions) rehabilitation of collective shelters and the implementation of quick impact projects. DRC is inviting local candidates to apply for the position of Child Protection Officer to support its activities under the project “Emergency Response for Displaced Syrians in Northern Lebanon” in partnership with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and  The United Nations Children’s Funds. General Responsibility Daily coordinate with UNHCR and UNICEF and all other local and international actors in regards with Child Protection; Supervision of the work of the Child Protection Case Workers, Social Workers and animators providing coaching and support; Receive referrals from different agencies and local actors and provide feedback of actions taken; Assist the Protection manager in reporting of activities regarding child protection activities; Assist the Protection manager in administrative matters related to the protection/CS activities; Assist the Protection manager in the daily/weekly work plan; Supervising the mobile teams providing Psychosocial support in urban and rural areas; Carry out field visits and conduct home visits, awareness sessions, Focus Group Discussions/participatory assessments, meetings with partners; Specific tasks Keeping good relations with local implementing actors, local authorities and other international and local stakeholders; Receiving, organizing and response to Child Protection cases referred by DRC staff and other agencies; Closely coordinating with relevant staff on Protection and Child Protection issues; Coaching the case managers team in their child protection activities Participating and leading the Best Interest Assessment (BIA) and Best Interest Determination (BID) panel when needed; Leading the follow up on the progress of the child protection programming; Follow up on the individual case management activities to children at risk by delivering home visits to vulnerable families’  Supervising case workers and social workers in the following: Assessing the child and families’ needs by filling out needs assessment and case management form; Providing basic counselling and psychological first aid to the child and his/her family; Setting up an intervention action plan jointly with the family; Providing social counselling, awareness, guidance, emotional support when needed; Conducting Best Interest Assessment (BIA) Assisting the families/children with material or financial assistance when needed and according to DRC’s financial assistance guidelines; Referring children and their families to appropriate services and ensure post referral follow up; Conducting regular home visits to follow up on child/family and assess the progress of the action plan; Assessing the situation of the child after services have been provided to ensure needs are met; Disseminating and sharing information with Persons of Concern on child rights and access to services; Ensuring proper documentation of data collected (hard and soft copies); Setting up necessary measures and create conducive environment to ensure confidentiality during interviews and to secure sensitive information; Work closely with UNHCR and UNICEF regarding Birth registration activities for Syrian Refugees. Reporting Write field visit daily and weekly reports on major findings, needs and problems faced; Contribute to the overall protection/CS weekly/monthly report underlining protection issues and related trends and figures in coordination with the Protection manager; Propose new activities according to identified needs and suggest solutions for problems encountered with activities; Maintain and update database on child protection activities. Others Any other duties relating to the nature of the job as directed by the Protection Manager Conditions Availability: ASAP Contract: Local, until June 30, 2014 renewable (Based on Performance and availability of funds) The position will require full presence in Akkar from Monday till Friday, in addition to weekends when needed.
