Program Manager (Armed Violence Reduction/Risk Education)

The Armed Violence Reduction and Risk Education Manager (AVR/RE M) is responsible for the coordination, management, development and representation of DRC/DDG risk education and AVR programming aiming to reduce the threat posed by mines, explosive remnants of war (ERW), improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and AVR programming targets risk and protective factors that appear to increase or reduce the likelihood of community tensions and armed violence.

Your main duties and responsibilities will be:

  • Represent DDG Risk Education and AVR programs and attend all relevant for a meetings in order to strengthen DRC/DDG’s position in the sectors. Lead DDG’s operations in the area of operation
  • Foster relationships with government authorities, national and international organisations and other relevant stakeholders, in addition to maintaining close working relationships with donors, nurture current partnerships and lead negotiations for further partnerships.
  • Line manage program staff ensuring inter-department co-ordination by enabling an effective team through result oriented management systems, providing leadership, on-job capacity building and designing staff development strategies.
  • Provide regular analysis on the context and humanitarian situation in the area for the development of project proposals and safety assessments;
  • Building on regional and global DDG tools, lead the development of risk education tools and methodologies and ensure active contribution from the global DDG team to their development;
  • Ensure overall provision of and adherence to DRC/DDG policies, procedures, guidelines, systems and standard practices, including commitments under the Core Humanitarian Standards;
  • Planning and conducting Explosive Remnants of War (ERW) Risk Education Knowledge, attitudes and practices (KAP) surveys.                    
  • Ensure a safe and secure environment for DRC/DDG staff, beneficiaries and assets by ensuring the local security procedures are up to date and SOPs are being followed in line DRC/DDG policy, promoting regular staff training, providing safety and security analysis, recommendations and follows-ups.
  • Comply with internal and donor reporting requirements, contribute to, and provide quality assurance of external reports from area of operation;

About you

To be successful in this role we expect you to have a university degree with advanced training/courses either in education, international relations, development studies, or other related field.  Moreover, we also expect the following: 

Required

  • Minimum 5 years’ management experience, overseeing AVR / humanitarian Mine Action programmes in complex and volatile environments
  • At least 3 years’ of experience in People Management
  • Proven experience in developing communications products (i.e. risk education material), strategic development and program design, planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation
  • Practical financial, HR and administration management experience with knowledge of budget development/management and finance documentation, tracking and archiving;
  • Proven communication skills and report writing skills is a must
  • Fluency in written and spoken English essential

Desirable

  • Experience in fundraising is advantageous
  • Experience with Armed Violence Reduction / community based peace building programming is advantageous
  • Arabic advantageous

  • Contract length: 1 year, renewable upon performance and funding

  • Duty Station: Beirut (roving Lebanon)
