Protection Assistant- FPSS

About the job 

The Protection Assistant will provide psychosocial support to children, caregivers and adolescent boys who have experienced or are at high risk of experiencing a child protection or GBV violation. ​

Duties and Responsibilities 

• Deliver FPSS in line with global and national inter-agency SOPs/standards 

• Ensure that children and caregivers are registered in focused PSS activities without creating stigma and/or judgement 

• Create a safe space where participants can voice their opinions, thoughts and emotions, share experiences and brainstorm on solutions in a confidential and respectful manner 

• Actively identify the most vulnerable: children at high risk of and their caregivers and ensure their enrollment in DRC’s focused PSS programs 

• Coordinate closely with the psychologist or mental health service providers in the area to ensure children and caregivers in need are supported with mental health services. Actively ensure referrals from case management to focused PSS and vice versa. 

• Adapt the location and timing of sessions, content and approach of the focused PSS program to the needs and availability of the participants including children with special needs 

• Ensure that all children and adolescent boys in focused PSS are referred to education services or livelihood opportunities for those above 15 years’ old. And ensure the proper documentation of data collected (hard and soft copies) during focused PSS (attendance sheets, permission slips, parental consent, referrals etc.)​

About you 

To be successful in this role we expect you to have Bachelor degree in Social Sciences (child development, social work, counseling, psychology or other related field), Includes Certificates and licenses. ​

Moreover we also expect the following: ​

Required qualifications  

• 2 years of experience providing psychosocial, CP&GBV activities to high risk children and caregivers  
• At least 1-year experience providing psychosocial support to children, adolescent boys & girls, and youth. ​

 Desirable qualifications: 

• Excellent knowledge of Child Protection and GBV and PSS basic principles 
• Excellent knowledge of child development and adult learning techniques 
• Excellent communication and psychosocial first aid skills 
• Excellent knowledge of the worst and other forms of child labor according to the relevant laws. 
• Good knowledge in establishing and working community-based committees  
• Ability to work flexible working hours ​

We offer 

• Contract Length: 12 months until 31th of March 2020. (pending fund approval) 
• Grade: I, Level 1. 
• Basic Salary: 1350 USD (based on years of experience)  
• Duty station: Bekaa 
• Start Date: April 2019. ​
