Social Worker - South

The Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is a humanitarian, non-governmental and nonprofit organization, founded in 1956, that works in more than 30 countries around the world. DRC has been operating in Lebanon since 2004, working with Palestinian and Iraqi refugees, as well as Lebanese communities affected by the war in 2006. DRC is committed to basic humanitarian principles; including impartiality and neutrality, and offers the highest standards of accountability to the people it serves. DRC Lebanon has been assisting the Syrian displaced, fleeing Syria into northern Lebanon, since May 2011. This assistance has come through the provision of food and non-food items, various outreach activities (registration, follow-up and awareness sessions) rehabilitation of collective shelters and the implementation of quick impact projects. DRC is inviting local candidates to apply for the position of Social Worker - South, to support its activities under the project “Emergency Response for Displaced Syrians in Lebanon” in partnership with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). General responsibilities: -          Coordinate and consult daily with DRC protection focal point on the work implemented. -          Assist the South protection focal point in the identification, intervention and referral of Persons of Concern (POC). -          Carry out individual, family and group interviews with Syrian refugees, with a particular focus on people of concern (POC), ex; SGBV (Sexual and Gender Based Violence) survivors. -          Assess POC psychosocial, socioeconomic conditions and needs and to prepare an intervention action plan or case management accordingly.     Specific tasks: -          Receive referrals from different agencies and local actors; carry out an intervention action (case management) plan accordingly and provide information on actions taken. -          Carry out individual or group or family intervention to assess the immediate needs of beneficiaries. -          Carry out Syrian displaced family intervention to their family environment and identify their psychological and socio-economic needs and intervene accordingly. -          Determine specific action to be taken in accordance with the emergency settings. -          Determine specific action to be taken in accordance with an intervention action plan or case management plan. -          Carry out outreach work with Syrian Refugees (home visits, focus group discussions, participatory assessment). -          Disseminate and share information with persons of concern (POC on their rights and access to services. -          Set up necessary measures and proper environment to ensure confidentiality during identification, intervention and referral of POC. -          Refer Persons of Concern (POC) to appropriate services and ensure post-referral follow-up. -          Participate in staff meetings and coordinate with the south protection focal point for the benefit of the beneficiaries. -          Carry out field visits along with south protection focal point to meet and coordinate with different agencies and local actors on referral and intervention with the target group.   File keeping and reporting -          Report verbally and in written to the protection focal point on the work implemented. -          Ensure proper documentation of data collected by opening and maintaining a file for each beneficiary (based on the DRC file template and DRC case management data base) -          Write monthly reports about the evolution of the work on this project and the results achieved and challenges faced. Other responsibilities: -       Carry out any other duties relevant to the nature of the job as requested by the Protection focal point. Qualifications & Experience: University degree; in social work Minimum 3 years of relevant work experience Experience in individual and family intervention Sufficient knowledge and intervention on SGBV and protection issues Experience in emergency work is a plus Ability to work under stress Required Skills: Excellent      communication skills Excellent interpersonal skills Commitment      to the values, vision and mission of DRC Good      computer skills (PowerPoint, Word, Excel…) Well-developed      organizational and planning skills Self-motivation      and strong team spirit Ability to speak, read and write      Arabic and English proficiently Excellent reporting skills Duration: 3 months; renewable (depending on performance and availability of funds)  Starting date:  April 2013 Conditions: DRC offers a competitive local salary and benefits package. The position will require full presence in the South (Based in the Tyre office) from Monday till Friday in addition to weekends if necessary.
