Social Worker - Tripoli

The Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is a humanitarian, non-governmental and nonprofit organization, founded in 1956, that works in more than 30 countries around the world. DRC has been operating in Lebanon since 2004, working with Palestinian and Iraqi refugees, as well as Lebanese communities affected by the war in 2006. DRC is committed to basic humanitarian principles; including impartiality and neutrality, and offers the highest standards of accountability to the people it serves. DRC Lebanon has been assisting the Syrian displaced, fleeing Syria into northern Lebanon, since May 2011. This assistance has come through the provision of food and non-food items, various outreach activities (registration, follow-up and awareness sessions) rehabilitation of collective shelters and the implementation of quick impact projects. DRC is inviting local candidates to apply for the position of Social Worker - Tripoli, to support its activities under the project “Emergency Response for Displaced Syrians in Lebanon” in partnership with the (UNICEF).   Responsible for:                   Social worker is a resources person in the child protection activities. Therefore she/he is responsible to take care of the children in the center during her/his session, and facilitate activities she/he in a child friendly approach. Ensuring children are free from any form of stress and feeling sense of safety and security is the main duty of the animator. Reporting in cases of violence, or all kind of abuse.   General Responsibility   Carry out mobile recreational and awareness activities in intended settlement, collective centres and other community spaces Create a safe setting where children can express their feelings and needs Contribute to the preparation of a child protection module and develop ideas and techniques of implementation that are age-appropriate Plan activities she/he is assigned to facilitate based on best interest and needs of children Accomplishes his/her duty of care in a child friendly manner ensuring children under her/his care are not exposed to any form of stressful situation Communicate with children in a protective manner ensuring the respect of their rights Create a positive and trustful atmosphere while interacting with children encouraging them to express their needs and ensuring their feeling of safety Understand children as the main actors in their own development and encourage them in decision making of matters that affects them. Listen to whatever children would like to say, help them express their feelings and needs and respond to it positively. Closely follow up individual child participation in activities and identify children with special needs. Report any observed problem of a child to the social worker for necessary support or referral to other supportive network. Ensure that a child is not alone in the center/location of activity at all times. Identify materials required for activities preferred by children and request for procurement. Actively attend supportive trainings and experience sharing meetings Accomplish individual and collective assignments given by her/his supervisors. Accomplish her/his duty of care protecting children from any form of maltreatment/abuse Reports to the social worker and/supervisors as soon as she/he suspect or observe or informed a child or children are at risk of abuse or being mistreated. Keep eyes on young children during group plays and avoid harmful exercises. Ensures activities are appropriate for the physical and mental capacity of children. Accomplishes other assignments given by immediate supervisor or other professionals in charge of the center. Commit to observe and avoid any possibility of transgression to children  Set up necessary measures and proper environment to ensure confidentiality during identification, intervention and referral   Determine specific action to be taken in accordance with the emergency settings Report verbally and in written to the child protection officer on the work implemented. Ensure proper documentation of data collected by opening and maintaining a excel file for all the children (based on the DRC/UNICEF file template) Write monthly reports about the evolution of the work on this project and the results achieved and challenges faced. Reporting   Provide weekly activities planning to the child protection officer Attend meeting with the child protection officer, the community center officer and the team of animator   Others   Undertake other duties that may be determined by his/her supervisor. Maintain professional flexibility in emergency context.   Qualifications & Experience: University degree; in social work, social animation or any relevant degree Minimum 3 years of relevant work experience with children Experience in social animation, animating a group of children Sufficient knowledge and intervention in child protection issues Experience in emergency work is a plus Ability to work under stress Required Skills: Excellent      communication skills Excellent interpersonal skills Good      computer skills (PowerPoint, Word, Excel…) Well-developed      organizational and planning skills Self-motivation      and strong team spirit Ability to speak, read and write      Arabic and English proficiently Excellent reporting skills Dynamic personality and ability to work under pressure Commitment  to the values, vision and mission of DRC Commitment and respect of the DRC code of conduct Commitment to the UNICEF child protection policy     Duration: Till End of Dec 2013; renewable (depending on performance and availability of funds) Starting date:  ASAP Conditions: DRC offers a competitive local salary and benefits package. The position will require full presence in Tripoli  from Monday till Friday in addition to weekends if necessary.
