Translator Volunteer

We are looking for a highly qualified candidate who has the skills to join our organization as Translator Volunteer     Who are we?  DRC has been operating in the Middle East and North Africa for over a decade, running a combination of livelihood, protection, advocacy and relief projects. DRC has six project offices throughout Iraq, Lebanon, Syria, Tunisia/Libya, Turkey, and both a country and regional office in Jordan.   DRC Lebanon has been assisting the Syrian displaced, fleeing Syria into northern Lebanon, since May 2011. This assistance has come through the provision of food and non-food items, various outreach activities (registration, follow-up and awareness sessions) rehabilitation of collective shelters and the implementation of quick impact projects.   For further information about DRC, please refer to our website: www.drc.ngo     About the job  The Translator intern has the responsibility to translate English language documents into Arabic whilst rendering the highest quality of translation services. The translator will be also responsible for making sure that the translated documents are cohesive, well structured, well-written, and ready to be shared with DRC staff members and partners.    Duties and Responsibilities  Translation from English to Arabic includes:  • Producing an accurate translation of Arabic text into English  • Ensuring that technical words related to Protection, Child Protection and Gender-Based Violence are accurately translated into Arabic  • Ensuring English language accuracy and proofreading  • Ensuring quality check and proofreading of translation   • Working within the required deadlines and be available to DRC for comments and corrections  • Upholding confidentiality and completing the translation promptly  • Assisting in producing monthly and quarterly reports on the different Protection programs in DRC Lebanon    About you  To be successful in this role you must have: Bachelor degree in translation, communication and/or development studies or currently enrolled in a graduate (or undergraduate) degree, ideally in translation, communications, journalism, development studies or a related field.     In this position, you are expected to demonstrate DRC’ five core competencies:   Striving for excellence: You focus on reaching results while ensuring an efficient process.   Collaborating: You involve relevant parties and encourage feedback.   Taking the lead: You take ownership and initiative while aiming for innovation.   Communicating: You listen and speak effectively and honestly.   Demonstrating integrity: You act in line with our vision and values.     Moreover we also expect the following:  • Excellent oral and written communications skills in Arabic and English.  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs.  • Strong written and oral communication skills  • Previous experience in international organizations and humanitarian settings  • Previous experience working with Syrian refugees in Lebanon  • Fluency in English and Arabic   We offer  DRC will offer the successful applicant a volunteering contract until 20th of June 2017, renewable dependent on both funding and performance. You must be available to start work from April 2017 and be willing and able to work in Beirut.  Salary and conditions will be in accordance with Danish Refugee Council’s Terms of Employment for Nationals; please refer to www.drc.ngo under Vacancies.
