Duties/Assignments:
- Develop, maintain and update the Dawlaty advocacy and communication strategy and associated work plan. Strategy and work plan include: an environmental and stakeholder assessment; objectives; target audiences; messages and media mix; resources; specific actions, activities and products; monitoring and evaluation of impact; success and opportunity for improvement; ongoing refinement of the strategy.
- Support program team in developing and implementing advocacy strategies to achieve program objectives, including formulating messaging, designing campaign materials, organizing events, engaging relevant stakeholders, etc…
- Provide support and capacity building (training, mentoring) to Dawlaty’s team and partners on advocacy, communication for development, community mobilization and communication.
- Lead and support joint advocacy initiatives of civil society organizations with national and international actors, as well as support local advocacy initiatives.
- Promote a better understanding of Dawlaty's mandate and field of work through its corporate communication (newsletter, annual report, website, social media), as well as by carrying out media, information and education activities.
- Monitor and evaluate the use and effectiveness of media materials. Maintain a library of coverage (clippings, coverage etc.). Monitor and document media stories appearing in local and international media about “Syria’s civil society”, as well as other human rights topics to be identified. Both traditional and new/online media to be covered. Share relevant reports with board members and relevant staff
- Manage and/or support Dawlaty's other communication/outreach team members to ensure coherent communication and advocacy messaging by Dawlaty.
Qualifications:
- Relevant post-secondary qualifications, preferably in Media and communications
- Experience in design and implementation of communication strategies, preferably in relation to NGOs and civil society.
- Experience with advocacy, communication for development and/or community organizing required.
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Working knowledge of Arabic and English
- Knowledge of and experience working in Syrian context strongly preferred
- Knowledge of gender, human rights, civil society, civic and democratic values and transitional justice strongly preferred
