Assignment Location: Home-based, with regular meetings with DRI staff

DRI is looking for a bilingual copywriter to co-draft, quality assure, and finalise DRI Lebanon’s newsletters, articles, etc.

Background

Democracy Reporting International (DRI) is a non-partisan, independent, not-for-profit organisation registered in Berlin. DRI promotes political participation of citizens, accountability of state bodies and the development of democratic institutions worldwide. It has been established in Lebanon since 2016. Democratic discourse is the basis of our mission and vision. In our work, we facilitate discussion and exchange about democratic government and the need for a continuous discourse adhering to democratic rules.

 

In the framework of its Lebanon projects and following DRI’s communications framework, DRI Lebanon is planning periodic newsletters showcasing its work. The newsletters shed light on project progress update, featuring articles written by partner journalists and shared by institutional partners. These newsletters shall be shared on DRI’s platforms such as LinkedIn, Twitter, DRI website, and mailing list.  list. 

 

To this end, DRI is recruiting a bilingual copywriter to co-draft, quality assure, and finalise DRI Lebanon’s newsletters, articles, etc.

Your Duties and Responsibilities

Under the supervision of DRI’s Country Representative, the copywriter will:

  • Collect details across DRI’s active programmes and projects and DRI’s overall activities.
  • Draft reader/user-friendly monthly newsletters summarising DRI’s activities. Such newsletters should be inclusive of all activities across the board and should be in line with social media good practices to grow follower base and drive user engagement.
  • Work closely with the design team to deliver visually appealing and engaging one-pager infographics. Infographics should illustrate details about DRI’s projects while sharing interesting global facts about specific topics to trigger an educational drive, while ensuring diversity of topics to retain audience engagement.
  • Ensure that newsletters are much more than a mere statement of activities but highlight the intended/expected outcome and impact of DRI’s activities on the various social segments engaged.
  • Closely align with DRI’s social media agency to release the newsletters once developed across the various media platforms. Posts and tweets should focus on the key targeted audience segments depending on DRI’s communication objectives.
  • Share newsletters in emailers and potentially amongst WhatsApp groups to increase followers/supporters base and increase newsletter subscription.
  • Review written communications outputs as per the monthly content calendar, such as press releases, tweets, posts, and captions prepared by DRI’s social media agency.

Your skills and experience:

  • An advanced university degree (MA or preferably a PhD) in journalism, literature, or other related fields;
  • At least five (5) years of professional experience in copywriting;
  • Analytical thinking and ability to convey complex information in a simple and engaging manner;
  • Outstanding writing skills in English and Arabic following a concise, think-tank style;
  • Thoroughness, accuracy, and outstanding attention to detail;
  • Ability to deliver under tight deadlines;
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Cultural and gender sensitivity.
