Background

Democracy Reporting International (DRI) is a non-partisan, independent, not-for-profit organisation registered in Berlin. It has been established in Lebanon since 2016. DRI promotes political participation of citizens, accountability of state bodies and the development of democratic institutions worldwide. Democratic discourse is the basis of our mission and vision. In our work, we facilitate discussion and exchange about democratic government and the need for a continuous discourse adhering to democratic rules.   

DRI is empowering civic actors, particularly youth, to become active citizens and to participate in public life while creating social bonds and bridges between youth, civil society, community members and local authorities.

DRI will be supporting two established youth councils to have a strategy in place and to be officially registered so they can be institutionalised, managing grants, and sustaining their initiatives beyond DRI’s intervention.

To this end, DRI is recruiting an attorney to support youth councils to be legally registered as a local NGO.

Duties and responsibilities

Under the supervision of DRI’s Project Manager, the attorney is responsible for:  

• Facilitating meetings with youth councils to fill the required templates and forms (One expert day per each council);
• Collecting the required documents from youth to initiate the registration process (One expert day) 
• Submitting the official documents and consistently following up with the Ministry of Interior and Municipalities to register youth council as a local NGO (Seven expert days)
• Developing and submitting an end assignment report, evaluating the activity and summarising the outcomes of the intervention, following the template or outline provided by DRI (One expert day).   

 Your Skills & Experience  

• A university degree in law; Registered at Lebanese bar association for the last five years

• At least 5 years of experience in registering NGOs, working with youth groups, drafting bylaws
• Working proficiency in Arabic.
