DRI is looking for a Gender Expert to undertake a gender analysis to effectively mainstream gender into the design formulation of DRI  projects, and to assess to what extent it is mainstreamed within its programming, research and policy advocacy, and across organisational internal processes, structures, systems, policies, and culture.

 

 

Background

Democracy Reporting International (DRI) is a non-partisan, independent, not-for-profit organisation registered in Berlin. It has been established in Lebanon since 2016. DRI promotes the political participation of citizens, accountability of state bodies, and the development of democratic institutions worldwide. Democratic discourse is the basis of our mission and vision. In our work, we facilitate discussion and exchange about democratic government and the need for a continuous discourse adhering to democratic rules.  

  

DRI is empowering civic actors, particularly women and youth to participate in the political process and is engaging civic and public actors in political and legal reform to advance a good governance agenda. 

 

In this framework, DRI Lebanon is looking for an experienced Gender Expert to undertake a gender analysis at the Country Office level to effectively mainstream gender into the design formulation of its projects. It will assess to what extent gender is mainstreamed within its programming, research and policy advocacy, and across organisational processes, structures, systems, policies, and culture. The purpose of the gender audit is to provide a baseline for progress on gender mainstreaming and assess the usefulness of existing gender best practices in programmes/projects, policies, and strategies at DRI Lebanon.

 

Duties and responsibilities

Under the supervision of DRI’s Programme Manager, the expert will:  

  • Propose a detailed Participatory Gender Audit methodology, objectives, and process for DRI’s approval (one expert day);
  • Conduct desk reviews of the following documents: internal policies and regulations, HR policies and regulations, administrative, financial and procurement rules and regulations, research and policy papers, project proposals, current activities, reports;
  • Identify gender gaps in specific areas of the organisation and propose actionable recommendations for amendments and improvements (three expert days);
  • Submit a gender audit report indicating the gender issues with an action plan (two expert days).

 

 Your Skills & Experience 

  • An advanced university degree in Gender Studies, social science, political science, or other relevant field; 
  • At least 5 years of experience in conducting gender audits for civil society organisations, public institutions, or development partners;
  • At least 5 years of experience working on gender issues in the development field and/or project management;
  • A clear vision for the assignment, as evidenced in a detailed methodology and guidelines for the action plan;
  • Strong understanding of gender concepts and contemporary gender theories;
  • Outstanding writing skills, ability to write concisely with minimal review;
  • Working proficiency in Arabic and English.
