Qualifications

  • secondary school education
  • holds a valid driver’s licence

Professional experience

  • at least 2-5 years’ work experience as a driver with references
  • advantage would be working experience in / for international cooperation agencies, international NGOs or companies
  • no major accidents in the past 5 years
  • accomplished Hostile Environment Awareness Training (or similar) is an asset

Other knowledge, additional competences

  • good knowledge (spoken and written) of the English and Arabic, discipline and punctuality

  1. Responsibilities

The driver is responsible for

  • safely and responsibly performing all official travel using official vehicles
  • regularly servicing and looking after official vehicles
  • taking account of all available information on road conditions, accessible routes and locations
  • running official errands and
  • assisting with other office work
  1. Tasks
  1. Driving

The driver

  • Independent execution of regular servicing tasks and taking care of official GIZ vehicles as per service plan
  • provides passenger transport in an official car for project staff, official visitors and guests in close coordination with the GIZ RMO
  • runs errands for the project, e.g. sending letters and messages, paying bills and buying smaller quantities of office supplies - handling petty cash/advance if needed
  • helps with transporting goods, equipment and luggage and always keeps them safe, and ensures the efficient and appropriate transport of equipment for the implementation of external events and workshops
  • Is responsible for and completes the vehicle logbook correctly and conscientiously in accordance with GIZ standards
  1. Service

The driver

  • cleans the interior and exterior of the vehicle(s) regularly
  • checks oil, water, brakes and brake liquid, tyre pressure, battery levels and the entire vehicle, monthly or every 5,000 km (whichever is first), headlights, brakes, bodywork for dents etc.
  • is responsible for the project vehicle documents and their good condition, keeping a vehicle log and recording monthly maintenance
  • Ensuring that car license and insurance are always up to date and facilitating renewal processes on time;
  • responsible at all time for making available all relevant and required security and first aid equipment in the official GIZ vehicles as per national standards and GIZ regulations in close cooperation with GIZ RMO
  • Ensures unrestricted availability of vehicles during working hours and reports restrictions immediately
  • calculates monthly petrol, oil and lubricant consumption for the daily cash fund and for forwarding monthly vouchers to cost accounting
  • reports need for service and carries out minor repairs
  • immediately reports all involvement of the project or office vehicle in accidents, including minor accidents, damage, loss or theft of vehicle fittings
  1. Knowledge management

The driver

  • uses all available information (including current radio news on traffic conditions) in close coordination with RMO to update daily knowledge of road conditions, current passable routes and locations, and shares this information with other office drivers
  1. Other duties/additional tasks:

 

  • Translate from/to English/Arabic when needed by a staff member
  • Supports with all necessary logistics related to external events and workshops
  • Carries out minor repairs
  • Assists with other office work of the projects
  • Carries out minor purchases for the project’s activities – handling petty cash/advance if needed
  • Reports any incident that may affect his/her driving license entitlement, as well as any newly known health problems that may affect his/her ability to drive.

 Description of the project: “Strengthening the resilience of smallholder farmers, micro- small and medium enterprises (MSME) and local communities” The situation in Lebanon is characterized by a structural economic and financial crisis and by the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic and the explosion in the port of Beirut in August 2020. The focus of the new Transitional Development Assistance project is to strengthen the socio-economic resilience of vulnerable groups in Beqaa and Mount Lebanon. This is done along three fields of action (1) strengthening agriculture, (2) promoting MSMEs and start-ups, and (3) promoting social cohesion at the local level.
