Advisor for women’s participation in peace and political processes

Qualifications
- University degree in Political Sciences, Peace and Conflict studies, International Relations and/or an area that is related to the project objective
Professional experience
- At least 5 years’ professional experience in a comparable position
- Experience with international organizations and with cooperating with UN organizations
- Experience in working on internationally coordinated/ UN-led peace processes of at is crucial
- Experience in conflict analysis and stakeholder mapping
- Demonstrated experience of working on peacebuilding and dialogue projects in a politically sensitive and complex security as well as remote management set-up
- Profound understanding of Track 2 and Track 3 as well as multi-track approaches and proven experience of at least 2 years of work with relevant entities and actors
- Strong writing, communication, and organizational skills
- Proven experience in applying best practices of Do-No-Harm and context-sensitivity
- Experience in monitoring and evaluation as well as reporting in international development cooperation
- Ability to work as part of a team, to focus under pressure, and to work on tight timelines
- Fluency in Arabic and English (written and spoken), knowledge of German is an asset
Other knowledge, additional competences
- Excellent working knowledge of ITC technologies and computer applications (e.g. MS Office);
- Strong planning and organisational competence.
- Willingness to upskill as required by the tasks to be performed – corresponding measures are agreed with management.
- Overall Responsibilities:
In your role, you are supporting the overall implementation of the project, with its technical and organizational activities. In consultation with your line manager, you will be responsible for planning, steering and monitoring of project activities. The project is implemented in cooperation with UN Women, you will be responsible in assuring a smooth communication with UN Women and the respective GIZ country portfolio.
In addition, you will be responsible for analysing and closely following up on civil society stakeholders in the field of women’s participation in peace processes
In consultation with your team colleagues in the other implementation countries, and your line manager, you assure that tasks in your area of work are being dealt with promptly and competently and GIZ rules and regulations are being considered and complied with.
You engage actively in knowledge exchange with your regional counterparts for Iraq, Libya and Yemen and ensure that national partner organizations benefit from that exchange. You support the organization of knowledge exchange fora and events on local and regional level, in particular with the participation and advocacy for local and regional women-led CSO’s in peace and political processes.
You perform the tasks assigned to you by your line manager, where required.
The technical professional performs the following tasks:
- Tasks
- Support the design, planning, facilitation, monitoring, implementation, and reporting of project activities along GIZ regulations and donor policies in a complex multi-stakeholder context
- Support monitoring and evaluation as well as reporting to the commissioning party
- Bring in expert-knowledge on civil society dynamics and peace processes in the region
- Ensuring good documentation of activities and learning experiences
- Engaging in exchange of knowledge with team members in the three other focus countries and their implementing partners as well as with the supervisor
- Liaise with international agencies, civil society actors, international organizations, and other actors relevant to the project in close coordination with supervisor
- Ensure that the project’s work is in line with international good practice in dialogue, mediation, peace process support and peacebuilding
- Process technical aspects and further develop the area of responsibility in accordance with the specified quality standards
- Maintain of a good flow of communication and information between all involved institutions and counterparts and GIZ
- Ensure best practices of Do-no-harm and context-sensitivity
- Where appropriate and reasonable, the position holder is willing to perform tasks outside the scope of the job description.
