- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology
- Familiarity with IT hardware and the software used, IT network systems, database software, GIZ intranet and a basic understanding of specific GIZ software (SAP, APS, AMS, WINPACCS, etc.)
- Clear understanding of Microsoft Office 365 periodic table and collaboration tools with a competence of using them
- Knowledge in Microsoft Windows Server 2019
Professional experience
At least 2 years’ experience in an IT position or similar experience in IT area
Other knowledge, additional competences
- Excellent technical knowledge of network and PC hardware, including Microsoft platform (Office 365, Teams, OneDrive, SharePoint)
- Hands-on hardware troubleshooting experience
- Extensive equipment support experience with laptops
- Working technical knowledge of current network protocols and IP addresses, operating systems, and standards
- Ability to operate tools, components, and peripheral accessories
- Able to read and understand technical manuals and procedural documentation
- Ability to conduct research into PC issues and products as required

- Responsibilities
The IT assistant is responsible to provide support to colleagues in the GIZ Country Office and projects:
- Maintain all working hardware and software (IT infrastructure) in optimum condition to minimize interruption to GIZ work
- Ensure that the IT systems in use comply to guidelines relating to IT and data security according to ISO/IEC 27001 certification
- Identifying relevant problems and issues and assisting in formulating implementation-oriented solutions
Tasks
- Provides assistance in the use of users’ computer hardware, software and operates a multi-platform computer environment or monitors the production scheduling, execution, and successful completion of production jobs.
- Helps maintain all GIZ standard and custom software used in the field structure (e.g., Office365, WINPACCS, SAP, Payroll, MS Teams, OneDrive, SharePoint)
- Sets up and configures desktop computers, peripherals and accounts assigning security level.
- Helps to install and maintain the local area network (LAN)
- Resolves all computer and internet problems, prepares all the necessary information and provides phone support
- Troubleshoots, diagnoses problems, implements corrective action procedures within prescribed guidelines and/or escalates to other technical resources as appropriate
- Knowledge in PC formatting and joining user accounts to active directory
- Knowledge in connecting network cables to patch panels and switches
- Maintains a list of all hardware and software systems and updates this to reflect changes
- Designs and produces basic reports and track inventory
- Transfers computer files between platforms
- Provides basic configuration, troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance for computer equipment (e.g., notebooks, printers, scanners, disk drives, storage devices, etc..) in accordance with current GIZ standards and may assist with testing computers and peripherals on a network to diagnose, hardware versus software problems.
- Acts as a customer liaison for the computing operation, communicating, resolving, and/or initiating the resolution of problems and concerns
- Contributes to unit goals by accomplishing related duties as required.

Background: The IT Assistant primary focus in the areas of computer operations, user, and desktop support (hardware and software), helpdesk, and data management. He/she shall perform a variety of complex information technology support duties to ensure smooth delivery of technology services. Monitors, operates, or coordinates and assists others in the operation of computer hardware, software, and peripherals to achieve desired results. Utilizes computer equipment, software, and diagnostic tools to perform a broad range of customer assistance, production job processing, equipment maintenance and repair and computer operations assignments. Updates the IT Specialist/Professional on the status of projects or technical issues.
