MHPSS Volunteer

  1. Project Context

The GIZ Regional Project “Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) in the Middle East” is looking for a volunteer to support in the development of knowledge products. It works on knowledge management with the aim of supporting the quality-of-service delivery for improved psychosocial wellbeing and mental health in the region. The project is represented in Lebanon, Jordan, Turkey and Iraq.

The volunteer will elaborate a paper on the intersections of MHPSS and Disabilities/Inclusion and will document the project’s lessons learned on the use of decolonial approaches in MHPSS with persons who are migrant workers in Lebanon. The volunteer will work under the direct supervision of a technical MHPSS advisor.

  1. Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor or Master’s Degree in Psychology (finalized or ongoing)
  • Excellent writing skills in academic publications in English, ability to write clearly and concisely
  • Successful publication of at least one academic piece, either online or in print
  • Experience in the application of qualitative research methods such as participatory observation

Other Qualifications:

  • Previous work/volunteer experience in the field of MHPSS is a plus
  • Knowledge on feminist and decolonial approaches in MHPSS is a plus
  • Work experience on the topic of disability/inclusion is a plus
  • Previous work/volunteer experience with INGOs or NGOs is a plus
  • Good oral communication skills in English and Arabic
  • Good working knowledge of ICT and Microsoft 365
  • Creative, open-minded team player with strong willingness to learn
  • Ability to think and work independently and work precisely with attention to detail
  • Constructive and positive attitude
  • Initiative, sound judgment and demonstrated ability to work harmoniously with staff members of different national and cultural backgrounds
  1. Tasks:
  • Elaboration of a paper on the intersections between MHPSS and Disabilities/Inclusion based on qualitative interviews with resource persons that have been conducted by the RP team and are available as written transcripts
  • Accompaniment of the team in the application of a decolonial approaches in MHPSS with persons who are migrant workers in Lebanon through participatory observation, organization of reflection meetings and written documentation. Elaboration of a lessons learned product at the end of the process.
  • Assistance in administrative tasks and office management
