Agriculture Engineer

Organization Background:  

Welthungerhilfe (WHH) is a private, non-profit-making, politically independent and non-denominational organization that supports people living in deprivation and poverty, irrespective of the color of their skin, their religious beliefs or their worldview. WHH is working in the fields of development cooperation and humanitarian aid, relief aid, rehabilitation, and reconstruction. In Lebanon, WHH implement projects through local implementing partners where agriculture, livelihoods, food security and social stability are the main working fields.  

Request: WHH is looking for a Agriculture Engineer. 

Tasks & Details:  

Contract framework 

The contract is a Service Contract. The contractor is working to support the WHH project management. 

The contractor will report to the WHH Head of Project (HOP) 

The services and deliverables are to be accomplished for the HOP and the project team. 

The main role of this position is to support the HOP in the implementation of the project and to support with expertise and advice in the field of agriculture. 

The work location is Beirut office. The service requires field visits to partner organizations and project sites. There are options to work 1-2 days per week from home.  

The service is needed until 31st October 2023.  

Deliverables, services requested:  

Technical support upon request,  

Report 

Supporting the HOP in daily tasks 

Expert inputs according to request 

Documentation and visual presentations about the status of the implementation 

The deliverables are to be approved by the HOP 

Technical inputs are to be approved by the Agriculture Economy Expert 

Tasks: 

Monitoring the agricultural tests (Soil test, pesticide residue test, etc.). The contractor makes sure that the quality of the samples matches the standards. 

Closely following up the work of the implementing partners. Undertaking field visits to implementation sites (Baalbak, Taanayel, Chouf, and South areas) in coordination with the partners. Overseeing and monitoring all the project’s activities while making sure to maintain the implementation according to the project’s strategies, logFrames and proposal. The contractor makes sure that the implementation is sound, on time, as per the requirements and reports on it. The contractor is communicating observations with the Head of Project.  

Overseeing and understanding the incubator and fumigation center and innovation hub and technically explain it to the team and being able to clarify any needed information.   

Supporting the technical expert under the project, while supporting the team to ensure quality standards are respected. 

Supporting the Head of Project and Agriculture Economy Expert in reviewing the technical documents such as curriculum and checklists sent by the partners. 

Ensuring the smooth coordination, exchange and sharing of information with partners. 

Supporting the M&E with the needed data. 

Ensuring the visibility of the project. 

Review the monthly report sent by the partners and confirm the implementation according to the visits done. 

Preparing appropriate reports and presentations, such as field reports, water and soil reports, reports about expert inputs and documentation about the expert inputs provided. 

Required competencies: 

Required degree in Agriculture engineering or related fields.​​​​​​ 

Extensive knowledge of the modern practices in wheat & cereal farming and value chain  

Previous experience with NGOs  

Must be computer literate.  

Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and Arabic  

Constructive, energetic, and positive attitude in the workplace 

Knowledge about the project planning and project cycle.

Payment Terms:  

Payment is oriented along WHH salary grades (Salary Grade 6)

Consultants new to Welthungerhilfe are paid a daily rate/monthly fee corresponding with the current and valid payment scale.  

The consultant receives a gross payment. The fee is paid monthly through bank-transfer to the account provided by the consultant upon approval of the service requester.  

In case of the un-accomplished tasks, Welthungerhilfe reserves the right to postpone the delivery of the payment until the accomplishment of the full and /or pay him/her in pro rata of the accomplished objectives.  

The monthly fee covers ALL expenses related to the work. No additional payment can be demanded by the contractor. Accepting the payment in this contract means the contractor accepts that the financial benefits are adequate and can cover all costs required to complete this task and duty of care. 

The consultant is responsible for the fulfilment of all fiscal and social insurance law obligations arising from this contract and must perform all necessary actions himself/herself.  The monthly fee covers ALL expenses related to health/health insurance or duty of care. No additional payment can be demanded by the consultant.
