Job OverviewThe Area Monitor is responsible for supervising the distribution of healthy snacks to children in assigned schools within the designated geographical area. This role includes overseeing multiple schools, coordinating snack orders, conducting daily visits as per assigned schedules, and reporting directly to the Project Coordinator. The Area Monitor ensures strict compliance with food quality and safety standards, upholds child safeguarding protocols at all times, and submits timely and accurate reports, contributing to the effective delivery of the program and the nutritional well-being of students.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct regular visits to assigned schools within the designated area, covering both AM and PM shifts, to verify compliance with school snack program guidelines, including the quality and distribution of snacks. Ensure each school is visited at least twice per week and complete standardized monitoring checklists to document observations.
- Coordinate with school focal points to prepare required school orders. Ensure all orders are accurate and submitted within the agreed deadlines to prevent any supply chain delays.
- Snack Orders & Inventory Management: Work closely with school staff to ensure proper storage and distribution of snacks, accurately track quantities in the storage room, and provide precise numbers to the DCL Data and Reporting Officer daily, in line with the program’s nutritional and logistical requirements. Ensure no discrepancies in inventory and report any irregularities immediately.
- Food Reception & Storage: In coordination with the Food Safety and Quality Officer, ensure proper reception and storage of food items in designated school storage areas. Conduct regular temperature and hygiene checks and document findings in monitoring forms.
- Data Collection: Gather and maintain accurate records, including attendance, waybills, snack inventory, allergy forms, storage room temperature, and oil data when applicable. Ensure all online sheets are filled daily.
- Reporting: Submit reports within 24 hours of activity completion, with immediate reporting of any critical incidents. Provide regular daily, weekly, and monthly updates to support program tracking and continuous improvements.
- Effective Communication & Problem-Solving: Foster positive relationships with school authorities, teachers, and other key stakeholders to address concerns, provide support, and resolve issues efficiently, while maintaining neutrality and professionalism in all interactions
- Monitoring & Reporting: Identify operational challenges, propose practical solutions, and ensure timely submission of incident reports.
- Adherence to Program Guidelines: Ensure the program is implemented in alignment with established guidelines, quality standards, and nutritional requirements, with immediate escalation of any non-compliance with food safety or distribution standards to the Project Coordinator.
- Team Collaboration: Actively contribute to a collaborative team environment by sharing insights, best practices, and challenges with other Area Monitors and project members to support the continuous improvement of the program.
- Safeguarding & Accountability: Report and address any protection or cross-cutting concerns, including fraud or misuse of resources, in a timely and appropriate manner. Ensure safeguarding principles are upheld at all times and participate in safeguarding and child protection training as required.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent; a Bachelor's degree in a related field is an advantage.
- 1-2 years of relevant experience in project monitoring, management, or school programs, preferably within an NGO or humanitarian setting.
- Fluency in both English and Arabic is required.
- A valid driver’s license and personal vehicle are necessary.
- Strong organizational, data collection, and analytical skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders.
- Ability to problem-solve, multitask, and work under pressure while maintaining attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
- Knowledge of the North Lebanon and/or Akkar regions is an advantage.
- Knowledge of humanitarian principles and accountability frameworks is an advantage.
- Basic computer literacy for data entry and reporting.
- A commitment to the mission of the WFP school snacks program, and adherence to DCL’s code of conduct, values, and policies.
