Daily Function
Under the supervision of Field Officer, the Employment Counselor / Job Developer will work to develop and monitor Employment Services Plan.
The Employment Counselor / Job Developer will conduct assessments of individuals’ employability to determine suitability for services and make appropriate referrals to support successful Employment Services Plan.
The Employment Counselor/ Job Developer will assist clients in achieving employment objectives by providing individual employment counseling.
Duties & Responsibilities: (include but not limited to)
- To Interview clients to obtain employment history, educational background, career objectives, client evaluation of program experience, and to assess their employment needs.
- To identify barriers to employment and assist clients to develop job readiness skills and job search.
- To collect labor market information for clients regarding job opening, entry and skill requirements and any other occupational information: (what companies and industries are in the area, what skills and experience local area employers prefer and require, what is the usual means of entry into those companies/industries, advice clients on how best apply)
- To assess need for additional assistance such as rehabilitation, financial aid and or further vocational training and make appropriate referrals.
- To provide counseling assistance in the areas of: Job saving, job search, job placement, job creation, career decision making, or other identified employment needs.
- To assist clients with resume and cover letter writing, interview preparation…etc
- To support and monitor clients as they progress through their Employment Plans
- To support clients in accessing programs such as literacy training, second career, job creation, partnership or self-employment benefit
- To follow up with clients at appropriate intervals to assess progress and record outcomes
- To support delivery of seminars and workshops to clients
- To provide one on one counseling to assist clients in achievement of their employment objectives
- Liaise with employment, job development services and community agencies , as needed to facilitate client’s progress
- To conduct outreach to clients, employers and the community to promote program services
- To maintain file case notes and appropriate documentation about client’s progress
- To enter accurate client data into designated reporting system and to update as needed
- To submit monthly/quarterly reports as required
- To assist clients in the use of resources and technology for job search activities
- To undertake any other duties commensurate with the post as required
