Agricultural consultant- Syria

The Agricultural consultant will lead in the implementation of strategies to develop and improve sustainable agricultural projects in rural Aleppo.

The Agricultural consultant, will be located In Hanano, Aleppo, and conduct routine field visits to projects locations in rural Aleppo (tall al daman). S/he will be reporting to the project coordinator.

Main Tasks:

• Support in conducting field studies to determine the soil capabilities and best seeds to be planted in the mentioned areas;
• Identify and recommend sustainable season-specific practices that could be introduced in the project areas;
• Support and develop a work plan based on conducted field studies that are in line with project objectives;
• Advise on how to improve the soil, use of fertilisers, weedkillers or other materials used;
• Introduce alternative farming methods, such as organic farming;
• Advise on the rehabilitation of irrigation structures;
• Supervise and follow up on the implementation of the project;
• Develop training materials on how to be energy efficient, promoting recycling and minimizing production waste in agricultural activities;
• Conduct trainings for the community members on proposed agricultural practices as well on financial literacy and reducing environmental footprint;
• Support continual improvement of agricultural activities by capturing and sharing key challenges, articulating obstacles and proposed solutions, and identifying success stories to highlight;
• Conduct monitoring visits to project locations in Aleppo and rural Aleppo (tall al daman), and facilitate necessary interventions when needed;
• Perform other tasks as requested by the management team of Dorcas.

Expected results/deliverables:

• Needs assessment report
• Training materials developed
• Report on the current agricultural strategies, available opportunities and recommendations that will improve the livelihood of communities in the pilot sites.
• Submit reports periodically in a timely manner.
