 PROJECT OVERVIEW

ECODIT LLC is implementing the USAID-funded Lebanon Diverting Waste by Encouraging Reuse and Recycling (DAWERR) Activity (the Project), a five-year project that will establish sustainable and replicable integrated solid waste diversion and valorization solutions in different rural areas in Lebanon, leading to improved social and economic well-being for Lebanon’s population.  Working concomitantly with municipalities, local communities, and the private sector, the Project will (1) develop sustainable composting value chains for organic waste and strengthen existing recycling value chains (RVCs) for inert recyclable materials in select municipalities serving as pilots initially and then support replication by other municipalities across Lebanon building on lessons learned from the pilots; and (2) implement integrated Solid Waste Management (SWM) solutions for unions or clusters of municipalities.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the overall management of the Local Development Lead (LDL), the Field Coordinator is expected to:

  • Gather information, collect data, and report on the SWM situation, services, and related needs and capacities in the targeted municipalities or union/clusters of municipalities;  
  • Participate in the ground-truthing process for the selection of new SWM solutions in municipalities or union/clusters of municipalities;
  • Contribute to the elaboration of projects’ action plans in the targeted communities;  
  • Liaise with community groups on a regular basis, including volunteers, Municipal SWM committees, local authorities, private sector entities, and other stakeholders, to ensure the adequate implementation of action plans;
  • Identify and engage local partners (including the private sector) and community members (champions, influencers, etc.) in the Project activities;
  • Maintain proper and updated documentation and reporting of implemented field activities, including assessment, capacity building, awareness and behavior change activities, etc.;
  • Assist in the organization, preparation and implementation of community-based Project activities, including trainings, town hall meetings, and awareness activities.
  • Provide regular (at least weekly) implementation updates (with photos when needed) to the LDL. This also includes the early detection of issues that could hinder successful Project implementation;
  • Facilitate Project monitoring and evaluation process (data collection, data entry and analysis, and reporting) based on the Project Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning Plan;
  • Assist in monitoring the implementation of the Environmental Mitigation and Monitoring Plan in each target municipality;
  • Submit monthly reports on the progress of activities, results, challenges, and achievements, including success stories, photos, short videos, and interviews with local partners and community members; and
  • Participate in weekly meetings with the DAWERR team and other field coordinators and exchange lessons learned

The Field Coordinator will be expected to travel extensively to field sites throughout Lebanon to execute the above duties and responsibilities and to maintain close collaboration with local stakeholders for a smooth implementation of the Project activities.

 QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences, Sustainable Development, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Management, or related field;
  • At least 4 years of experience in local development, including working closely and effectively with municipalities, communities, civil society, and the private sector, in improving services – Experience in SWM issues is a plus;  
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Arabic;
  • Excellent reporting and writing skills;  
  • Demonstrated experience in community engagement and mobilization;
  • Strong understanding of political and socio-economic issues in Lebanon;
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, including interpersonal and communication skills, strategic thinking, and problem-solving;
  • Ability to multitask and monitor several projects on daily basis; and
  • Ability and willingness to travel extensively to the Project sites.
