Inclusion Officer-Makani Project

The inclusion officers will be responsible for the inclusion of children with disabilities in NFE programmes, with the tasks and responsibilities outlined below.

Responsibilities:

  • Guides the outreach workers /social workers/educators to identify and work with children with disabilities, families and communities
  • Provides training, mentoring and methodological support and guidance to regular teachers on including children with disabilities in learning (identifying special education needs, teaching techniques and teaching strategies for inclusion)
  • Conducts  special education needs assessment process of the learners or if necessary refers to formal assessment, for receiving specialized services or special needs supplies
  • Oversees the organization of specialized services for children with disabilities as necessary
  • Plans activities or support measures that are specific to each student’s abilities, supports finding solution to remove barriers
  • Monitors the progress of the learners with special education needs and discusses with teachers and parents; collects data and maintains records of progress and development
  • Ensures the correct reporting on disabilities in ActivityInfo, Child Level Monitoring Tool, narrative reports and the disability tracking sheet.
  • Provides support and guidance to the families and ensures their engagement in family engagement activities
  • Makes a recommendation on the pathway for the child after completion of the given course of study.
  • Liaises with Case workers for identification of children in need of NFE, and for referral to next step in the pathway (formal education or another Non-formal opportunity)
  • Participates in child protection and education sector meetings.
  • Participates in trainings organized by UNICEF
  • Identifies service providers and therapists in the community, in addition to local organizations who could provide support to children with disabilities for further referral.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

Education:

  • A university degree, in education, special education, psychology, social pedagogy, or other relevant areas

Experience:

  • Three to five years of professional experience in special education or inclusive education
  • Strong familiarity with the concept and p inclusive education is an asset
  • Experience in teacher training is an asset
  • Strong training & facilitation skills;
  • Strong coordination skills
