Organizational Setting

The vacancy is for the FAO Representation in Lebanon and includes travel in-country field missions across all areas in Lebanon as needed. FAO is implementing several projects within its Country Programming Framework (CPF) in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture and other relevant Ministries.  

The CPF aims at supporting vulnerable farmers through several mechanisms coupled with communication and visibility campaigns targeting the public at large, farmers, public administrations, stakeholders as well as donors.

During the implementation of the CPF and its related projects, the FAO Representation in Lebanon is aiming to have a well-established and easily maintainable communication and visibility plan for all its ongoing projects as well for its normative work in the country.

 

Reporting Lines

Under the overall supervision and guidance of the FAOR and the Assistant FAOR (Programme) and close supervision of the FAO’s Communication consultant, the “Communication and digital media assistant” should provide the necessary support to achieve and complete the communication and visibility plan of the Representation including the individual plan for each ongoing project in due time.

Tasks and responsibilities

  • Assist the Communication Officer in the implementation of FAO Lebanon communication plan in addition to FAO project specific communications plans;
  • Collaborate in planning, monitoring and reporting of communication activities;
  • Support the Communication Officer in the development of information, promotional and interactive materials (i.e. photo galleries, briefing notes, fact sheets);
  • Assist the Communication Officer in drafting media advisories, press releases and other communication materials and in reviewing, editing and finalizing talking points and speeches in both Arabic, English and French (when needed);
  • Ensure the FAO visibility requirements are met as well as quality and application of donor/FAO visibility according to branding guidelines;
  • Support the Communication Officer and the Designer in the development of promotional items and reviewing specifications and items;
  • Assist the Communication Officer in drafting success stories from the field and in drafting news items of various formats (electronic, printed, web) in English and in Arabic in accordance with FAO writing style guidelines (formatting, fonts, index, acronyms, spell check, headers and footnotes) and visuals (pictures, graphics, infographics, etc.);
  • Ensure that the FAO publications are reviewed by the FAO publishing workflow system and coordinate on the finalization of printed items;
  • Assist the Communication Officer in planning and organizing of virtual/public events (conferences, presentations, training events, visits of officials, field visits, etc.) ensuring consistency of messages, quality of events, and visibility;
  • Support the Communication Officer in updating the FAO Lebanon website, and in the dissemination of media, communication and visibility materials;
  • Maintain and periodically update relevant contact databases (media and other partners);
  • Proofread materials in both Arabic, English and French as needed;
  • Review filming plans and comment on drafts received by videographers in the field based on FAO videography and SM rules; and coordinate with both regional and OCC offices on the approval process of the videos produced.
  • Be present in the field when needed.
  • Monitor traditional and social media and report relevant information to the Communication Officer to inform the development and/or evaluation of communications activities and strategies.
  • Contribute to the design and implementation of a social media strategy for FAO Lebanon twitter account;
  • Assist the Communication Consultant in managing FAO Lebanon twitter account and creating appealing posts, visuals, infographics and videos in Arabic and English;
  • Maintain a social media editorial schedule to be reviewed by Communication Consultant and relevant staff at FAO Lebanon;
  • Assist in monitoring the reporting and analysis system of the portal, social and digital marketing such as Google Analytics and social media reporting tools;
  • Be across trends in the social media space, review best practices and make recommendations on how to improve the representation online presence;
  • Develop a multimedia library including photos and videos for social media (in particular twitter);
  • Work closely with all parties involved in the content development process, including the project managers, partners and donors, in line with the relevant authorities and level of involvement;
  • Perform other related duties as required.

 

Expected Outputs:

  • Short report with the material prepared and reviewed in annexes, each two months.

 

CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING

 

Minimum Requirements   

  • University degree (MA) in Communication, Journalism, Multimedia, media studies, advertising or equivalent professional experience.
  • 4 years of relevant experience at the national or international level;
  • Excellent knowledge of English; Arabic and good command of French
  • National of Lebanon or resident in the country

Technical/Functional Skills

  • Knowledge and experience working for the UN is an asset.
  • Knowhow of modern graphic and publication skills, photography and AV production would be a clear advantage.
  • Fluency in social media platforms, in creating and managing social media strategies and competence in Photoshop for basic photo, web, and print layouts and editing
  • Solid overall computer literacy, including proficiency in various MS Office applications (Excel, Word, etc.) and email/internet; familiarity with database management; and office technology equipment;
  • Accuracy and professionalism in document production and editing;

 

Selection Criteria

  • Ability to travel on field visits across all Lebanese areas once necessary.
  • Prior information communication/media/editing experience with the UN/International organizations is a plus.
  • Willing to conduct extensive field visits to the remote project locations if needed.
  • Self-motivated, ability to work with minimum supervision; ability to work with tight deadlines;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; culturally and socially sensitive; ability to work inclusively and collaboratively with a range of partners, including grassroots community members, and authorities at different levels; familiarity with tools and approaches of communications for development.
  • Be creative to improve dissemination of information and meets the users needs;
  • Keep abreast of technology and understand applicability and limitation of its use within the work context.
