Food and Agriculture organization of the United Nations Terms of Reference for Consultant Category B * Vacancy Number: FVAC17.007 Name: National consultant – Text and content Editor and case studies adaptation Job Title**: Personal Service Agreement for Editorial Services Division/Department: ESP Programme/Project Number:   Duty Station: Home based Expected Start Date of Assignment: April 15,2017 Duration: August 31, 2017 Reports to: Name: Maurice Saade Bernd Seiffert Title: FAOLB Rep ESP   1 year for a category C 5 years for a category B 12 years for a category A     General Description of task(s) and objectives to be achieved Under the overall supervision of the FAO Representative in Lebanon, and technical supervision of ESP division and technical officers in the Child labour and Rotterdam convention Team in HQ, the national consultant will conduct the following activities in close collaboration with the national coordinator on child labour in FAOLB. The Consultant will work on the editing and proofreading in Arabic of the e-learning lesson Pesticide management and child labour prevention and the unit 1 (lessons 1.1, 1.2 and 1.3) of the e-learning course End child labour in agriculture, which together form the e-learning mini course on Pesticide management and child labour prevention, adaptation of the case studies included in the e-learning, and ensuring overall quality of the final product (learning mini course ready to be published).   More specifically the translator/editor will be responsible for: •              Editing and proofreading in Arabic of the entire e-learning mini course (in the MS-PowerPoint storyboard version and subsequently in the programmed interactive version). For all cases, this includes the additional notes, annexes, job aids, case studies, examples, rollover text, pop up boxes and feedback for tests associated with each lesson). In particular, the translator/editor will: •              - check for and correct repetitions, typos, spelling or grammar mistakes, as well as improve phrasing and language for easier reading; •              – check that the programmed version of each lesson matches the final storyboard in terms of content. For example, that the programmed lesson contains and matches all content from the final storyboard (i.e. that no text is incomplete or missing; that the slide headings, pop-ups etc. correctly match; and that the correct, incorrect and view answer feedback matches what was in the storyboard notes). •              - review and edit any gross inconsistency in the style and format within the slides (spacing, indentation, capitalization, paragraphs, headings etc.); •              - ensure full consistency with ILO/FAO terminology related to child labour; •              - ensure full consistency with FAO editorial guidelines including acronyms, abbreviations, spelling, punctuation, etc. •              - ensure clarity and continuity of the argument(s); clarity of structure and core themes; internal consistency, both analytical and stylistic; •              - improve phrasing and language for easier reading; •              Adapt the case studies/examples (9) included in the mini course to the geographical, cultural and socio-economic context of the Arabic-speaking countries, in a way that the course is relevant to these countries. •              Look for the Arabic-language version of the recommended additional resources and publications included in the mini course, as well as for any other relevant Arabic-language resource worth including in the mini course; •              Ensure the overall quality of the final product (e-learning mini course ready to be published) in terms of language (style, readability, flow), correct terminology, relevance and appropriateness of the case studies, examples, illustrations, photos etc. in terms of content and adaptation to the regional context, correct functioning of tests, pop ups, course navigation etc. The course in English can be accessed online and downloaded at the FAO e-learning centre webpage.
