Objective
To improve livelihoods and increase resilience to climate change and agricultural productivity for vulnerable farming households in Wadi al Ayn.
Activities implemented
• Established four Water User Associations (WUAs) with 30 percent female representation in WUA decision-making structures and trained its members on effective water management, conflict resolution and disaster risk management.
• Supported WUAs in developing an integrated watershed resource management plan, including a ten-year development strategy.
• Engaged 1 970 households in cash-for-work activities for the rehabilitation of 19 sites of irrigation infrastructure and the plantation of 6 000 Sidr tree seedlings.
• Distributed 200 sets of floppy sprinkler irrigation systems to 1 625 households.
• Conducted a gender analysis as part of a rapid assessment for existing WUAs.
• Established women’s water groups and trained its members on administrative management, water resource management, conflict resolution, economic self-reliance and social cohesion.
• Raised awareness through workshops and meetings on the role of women in water management and equity in water resource management.
• Disbursed cash assistance valued at USD 87 672.65 to 247 femaleheaded households.
