Freelance Consultancy Offer

The Goethe-Institut is the Federal Republic of Germany’s worldwide cultural institute. We promote the knowledge of the German language abroad and cultivate international cultural cooperation. The Goethe-Institut Lebanon is implementing since 2019 the project FANTASMEEM which adopts a holistic approach towards supporting the design industry in Lebanon. This involves capacity building, fostering cultural / social / environmental entrepreneurship, and encouraging collaborations and knowledge sharing.

The Goethe-Institut Lebanon is looking for one or two (working as a team) Consultant(s) starting from March (or later) until October 31, 2021 to work as freelancers in close coordination with the FANTASMEEM team in order to establish a support structure for the design scene in Lebanon.

Services to be provided by the Consultant(s):

• Based on the needs of designers and design entrepreneurs in Lebanon, elaborate a concept for a support structure for the design scene in Lebanon including:
  • A mission statement, goals and objectives with indicators; suggestions for a name
  • A realistic legal status;
  • An organisational and team structure for decision-making and execution, including recommendations for an advisory board structure;
  • A financial model that is realistic and sustainable in the mid- and long-term for the structure to be functional and independent.
• Develop an implementation plan on the short- and long-term with a timeframe and budget plan, starting implementation End of 2021, including but not restricted to:
  • Get acquainted with the project and the needs of the design scene;
  • Identify potential partners and relevant stakeholders in Lebanon and abroad to be involved in the structure through various types of collaboration and support;
  • Identify potential spaces for the structure to have a physical presence for activities and events;
  • Conceptualize community building and networking activities among designers and design entrepreneurs based in Lebanon and abroad;
  • Suggest activities and programs that can foster collaboration and capacity building as well as increase visibility and exposure of designers and design entrepreneurs in Lebanon (also at the regional and international level).

The requirements:

• At least three years of professional experience in design with experience of collaborations with other designers or design entrepreneurs
• Proven experience in the conception, development and successful implementation of projects in the cultural and creative field in Lebanon, also in cooperation with local and/or international NGOs
• Knowledge of design entrepreneurship in Lebanon
• Proficiency in English and Arabic, both spoken and written

Applications should include:

• A motivation letter, a CV mentioning implemented projects as well as a brief proposal outlining the procedure to achieve the above mentioned tasks and a draft budget in Euros for the completion of the freelance tasks, detailing them from the familiarization with the project to the finalization of the full budgeted implementation plan.

• The maximum budget for the whole period of 8 months in case of a team application or of a single application is 12.800€.
