Shelter Officer – Carpentry & Prefabricated Frames

Key Tasks & Responsibilities
  1. Carpentry & Production Monitoring
  • Monitor the production of prefabricated wooden frames and carpentry elements in workshops.
  • Verify that materials, dimensions, joints, fixings, and finishes comply with approved technical specifications.
  • Identify production defects or deviations and recommend corrective actions.
  • Support workshop teams in improving production efficiency, safety, and workmanship.
  1. Technical Oversight of Woodwork
  • Apply sound knowledge of carpentry and woodwork to:
    • Verify timber quality, treatment, and moisture suitability
    • Ensure structural stability and durability of prefabricated elements
  • Provide practical technical guidance to carpenters when required, without assuming a production management role.
  1. Quality Control & Documentation
  • Conduct routine quality-control checks at different stages of production.
  • Maintain production and QC records, including:
    • Batch tracking
    • Acceptance and rejection notes
    • Corrective actions taken
  • Report production status, risks, and delays to the Shelter Specialist.
  1. Logistics, Storage & Warehousing Coordination
  • Coordinate with logistics and warehouse teams to ensure:
    • Proper storage of timber and prefabricated elements
    • Protection of materials from moisture, damage, and deformation
    • Correct stacking, labeling, and stock rotation
  • Support inventory tracking of produced items and raw materials.
  • Ensure readiness of items for dispatch to field locations in line with implementation schedules.
  1. Dispatch & Field Readiness
  • Coordinate preparation of prefabricated frames for transport to field sites.
  • Verify quantities, packaging, and loading methods to minimize damage during transport.
  • Support handover of items to field teams and flag any issues observed during delivery.
  1. Safety & Workshop Practices
  • Monitor basic workshop safety practices related to carpentry works.
  • Flag unsafe practices or conditions to supervisors and management.
  • Promote safe handling of tools, machinery, and materials.
  1. Emergency & Surge Support
  • Support accelerated production or dispatch during emergency shelter responses.
  • Adapt production priorities in coordination with the Shelter Senior Officer when urgent needs arise.
  1. Reporting & Desk-Based Work
  • Prepare regular production monitoring reports, including:
    • Progress against production targets
    • Quality issues and resolutions
    • Stock and dispatch updates
  • Maintain organized records related to production and logistics activities.
  1. Other Duties
  • Perform any other shelter- or production-related tasks as may be reasonably requested by the Shelter Senior Officer or management.
Level of Responsibility & Accountability
  • High technical and operational responsibility for carpentry quality and production monitoring
  • Accountable for quality compliance, production follow-up, and logistical readiness
  • Does not independently coordinate externally or approve procurement
Required Qualifications & Experience
  • Technical diploma or university degree in carpentry, wood technology, civil construction, or a related field.
  • Strong practical knowledge of carpentry and woodwork is mandatory.
  • Minimum 3–5 years of experience in carpentry production, prefabrication, or construction-related manufacturing.
  • Good knowledge of logistics and warehousing practices, including storage, inventory tracking, and dispatch.
  • Experience working with prefabricated construction elements is a strong asset.
  • Ability to work between workshops, warehouses, and field sites.
  • Fluency in Arabic; working knowledge of English is required.
