Objective of the job:
The WASH Officer will primarily work in the field to conduct site assessments, prepare technical drawings and BoQs, and supervise a range of WASH interventions, including the construction and rehabilitation of water networks, water treatment systems, and solar water pumping stations. The officer will also manage essential office-based responsibilities, including reporting, planning, and coordinating with stakeholders. Through hands-on field engagement and effective coordination, the WASH Officer will ensure that all interventions are technically sound, community-driven, and delivered on schedule.
Key Responsibilities:
Field Assessments & Implementation:
- Conduct and lead initial and ongoing WASH needs assessments across targeted municipalities and communities.
- Coordinate and supervise the implementation of construction and rehabilitation works.
- Verify that materials, workmanship, and deliveries adhere to project standards.
Monitoring, Reporting & Office Duties:
- Develop and maintain dynamic tracking tools (Gantt charts, dashboards) to monitor outputs, budgets, and timelines.
- Draft weekly field briefs and comprehensive monthly progress reports for the Project Coordinator.
- Support the project coordinator in updating activity plans, procurement schedules, and risk registers based on field findings.
Quality Assurance & Compliance:
- Ensure strict adherence to organizational policies (safeguarding, financial controls) and guidelines.
Team Support & Capacity Building:
- Mentor field staff on technical protocols, safety measures, and community feedback mechanisms.
Risk Management & Adaptation:
- Identify security, logistical, and environmental risks; design and implement mitigation strategies.
- Adapt implementation plans in real time in response to evolving field conditions and stakeholder feedback in coordination with the project coordinator.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, or any related field.
- Minimum 2 years’ experience managing field-based WASH interventions in humanitarian settings.
- Solid technical knowledge of water distribution networks, solar-powered pumping stations, and core WASH engineering principles.
- Proficient in Excel and mobile data-collection tools.
- Proficient in AutoCAD, including preparing drawings and detailed technical plans.
- Excellent interpersonal skills; fluency in English and Arabic.
- Willingness to work extended periods in challenging field environments.
