Member of ECOSOC with special status, it aims to achieve sustainable human development at the regional, national and local levels through investing in the human capital. Through its diverse set of programs, the organization localizes, delivers and mainstreams advanced educational, participatory and developmental models aiming to transform education, promote active citizenship, and build urban resilience.
The Hariri Foundation seeks to strengthen partnerships between the public, private and civic sectors through establishing and supporting sectoral networks and communities of practice. Through international, national, and local partnerships and a diverse set of engagement programs, the organization strives to facilitate evidence-based policy addressing global development transformations and scientific frameworks.
Job Description
The Hariri Foundation for Sustainable Human Development is seeking a dynamic and skilled Environmental Officer. The officer will be responsible for the implementation of cross-cutting urban and environmental planning and assessment processes, particularly within the fields of climate change, urban resilience, and coastal development. The officer will contribute to the design, development, collection, and analysis of measurable metrics and initiatives. The role involves both technical and coordination support across multiple projects.
Key Responsibilities
1. Research, Data & Knowledge Production
• Conduct contextual research and policy analysis in the fields of climate change, urban resilience, and coastal development
• Collect, process, and analyze quantitative, qualitative, and geospatial data, including indicators, mapping, and trends
• Map and monitor policies, plans, programs, and initiatives through structured tracking systems
• Produce written outputs such as technical reports, briefing notes, and publications for both internal use and external dissemination
• Design and develop digital dashboards, GIS maps, progress monitoring templates, and evaluation tools
2. Stakeholder Engagement & Participatory Planning
• Support the identification, mapping, and analysis of relevant stakeholders and local actors
• Assist in the planning and execution of engagement processes, including meetings, workshops, and focus group discussions
• Coordinate logistical arrangements and documentation for stakeholder events
• Prepare communication materials (print, digital, visual) tailored for diverse stakeholder groups
3. Project Implementation & Coordination
• Contribute to the planning and execution of project activities
• Support timelines, deliverables, and documentation across multiple projects
• Provide operational support to ensure alignment between field activities, monitoring systems, and reporting requirements
• Ensure proper archiving and documentation of project data, reports, and engagement outcomes
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Architecture, Urban Planning, or related field of development
• At least 3 years of experience working on environmental and urban development projects
• Proven experience with GIS, PowerBI, Adobe Illustrator, and Microsoft Office
• Strong writing and communication skills in both Arabic and English
• Understanding of international frameworks such as Agenda 2030 and the Sendai Framework
• Experience with stakeholder mapping and digital tools for environmental monitoring is a strong asset
• Experience working with municipalities, NGOs, or international development programs is a strong asset
