Lead Economist

I.                    Job Summary Working with the Principal Expert/Principal Gender Specialist, the Lead Economist will be tasked with “Arab Gender Index” design, encompassing the development of calculation methodology, along with the definition and selection of technical parameters, variables and cohorts. Taking part in Expert Group Meetings, the Lead Economist will work on incorporating the endorsed recommendations of various stakeholders into the design process of the indices.   II.           Main Functions & Duties The Lead Economist will assume the following functions: -       Provide technical direction for the design of ‘Arab Gender Index’  from definition phase through implementation, including the development of calculation methodology, and the selection of technical parameters, variables and cohorts; -       Develop the AGI Technical Paper explaining the calculation methodology, data filtering and screening criteria, and other relevant technical issues; -       Provide technical insight and evaluate the process of data  validation and triangulation  pre-index formulation;     III.                Experience   -       10 years of working experience in the field of economic analysis with preference given to work of relevance to gender issues; -       8+ years of experience in Advanced Quantitative Methods -       Established track record of excellence in analytical work on economic and gender policy issues, as demonstrated through major written outputs (reports, published papers); -       Extensive experience in the design of gender surveys and analysis, including gender equality measurement, the evaluation of gender policies  and their implications on various fronts, including income distribution and labor markets, and work on the relationships between gender equality and outcomes in the areas of human development.   IV.                  Qualifications   -      MA or equivalent in Statistics, Economics , Econometrics or Mathematical Economics, with at least 8 years of relevant professional experience; PhD degree preferred; -       Bilingual (English, Arabic)
