Clinical Psychologist

Humedica provides health and mental health support to Syrians and Lebanese through its teams located in Central Bekaa. Besides The Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) consultations through its MHPSS Officer in ITSs, humedica is planning to provide mental health support through PHCs as well as mental health trainings for PHC staff in support of the National Mental Health Program with the MoPH.

DESCRIPTION:

The Clinical Psychologist meets with clients to identify problems—emotional, mental, and behavioral—in their lives and diagnose any existing or potential disorders. The Clinical Psychologist formulates and implements treatment plans according to the client’s needs and monitors the client’s progress on a regular basis to ensure that their needs are met by the course of action, and to adjust it if necessary.

The Clinical Psychologist will carry out his/her services in clinics supported by humedica in Central Bekaa.

WORK COORDINATION AND DECISION MAKING

The Clinical Psychologist reports directly to the Mental Health (MH) Coordinator of humedica. He/she will coordinate with MH Coordinator and the technical team (i.a. Psychiatrist and Social Worker) of the clinics for technical support and follow up.

The job holder should take decisions related to the accountabilities and tasks outlined below while coordinating directly with the MH Coordinator. Any decision beyond her/his realm or responsibility should be discussed with the MH Coordinator.

TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Diagnosis and treatment of mental health cases

  • Support the case manager in assessing the person’s condition.
  • Properly assess, diagnose, support and provide appropriate mental health support and/or treatment through individual counselling, group therapy, and psycho-education to all beneficiaries in need.
  • Work directly with the social worker to develop individualized intervention plans.
  • Participate to case discussions for the person enrolled in the project with the multidisciplinary team (including social worker, MHPSS officer, nurse, and any referral organization).
  • Ensure proper follow up, including psychoeducation.
  • Ensure that emergency cases are properly taken care of, referred and followed.
  • Commit with clinical documentation of all individual and other MH activities.
  • Assist in the assessment of mental health needs and proposition of interventions.
  • Coordinate with the social worker, the nurses and the MH Coordinator for the implementation of all mental health interventions and activities.
  • Assist in the coordination of MHPSS activities with PHC/dispensary staff as well as other stakeholders.
  • Actively participate in the development and implementation of psycho-social activities, including group support.
  • Raise awareness about mental health, participate in the development and implementation of preventive activities, and various events related to MHPSS.
  • Facilitate sensitization sessions and build the capacities of PHC and hospital staff about MHPSS
  • Train GPs and other PHC staff on mhGAP
  • Participate in the preparation of awareness/training sessions about MH for staff at PHCs
  • Identify referral needs (child protection, GBV, health, shelter, etc), refer and follow up

2. Monitoring and Treatment

  • Monitor the psychological progress of the beneficiary, review cases with the MH Coordinator and refer cases to specialized services when required (speech therapy, psychomotor therapy, etc.).

3. Documentation and reporting

  • Daily data collection and entry, respecting deadlines
  • Report on weekly progress to the MH Coordinator
  • Monthly reporting on mental health activities
  • Participate in weekly meetings with the Mental Health Team, during which cases will be discussed and support and supervision will be provided by the MH Coordinator
  • Collect data from beneficiaries and fill out the necessary forms for each session conducted (assessment form, follow-up form)
  • File documents in an organized and efficient manner in order to facilitate the review of cases

4. Others

  • Demonstrate a high level of professionalism while working or coordinating with beneficiaries, their family members and all internal or external parties.
  • Demonstrate a high level of cultural sensitivity, professionalism, politeness and objectivity when dealing with the beneficiaries under all circumstances. 
  • Provide structured clinical assessments and develop consistent treatment plans.

Qualifications:

  • MA in Clinical Psychology with a clear practicum path (at least 400 hours)
  • Holds MOPH Licence
  • 2 to 3 years of experience in clinical psychology
  • Follows individual supervision
  • Believes in a comprehensive and holistic approach towards positive mental health.
  • Arabic and English languages are mandatory
  • Experience working with NGO is preferred
  • Trained on mhGAP with previous support and supervision experience
  • Excellence in organizing, planning and prioritizing tasks
  • Ability to identify strengths and weakness and in proposing shared solutions for the continuous improvement of providing quality services
  • Strong ability to observe, analyse, report and take initiative
  • Ability to work with a team as well as to work independently
  • Ability to seek, collect, and critically analyse data and information needed to achieve the tasks
  • Clear commitment in the project thematic
  • Ability to communicate any technical or non-technical topic with clarity and to share any important project information with the team
  • Proficiency with Microsoft word and excel

CONDITIONS OF ENGAGEMENT:

The Clinical Psychologist will work in the PHCs supported by humedica in Central Bekaa for around 10-12 working days per month based on the need.
