Medical Doctor (GP) for Medical Mobile Unit in Informal Tent Settlements

TERMS OF REFERENCE (ToR) Medical Doctor

Humedica, founded in 1979 and situated in Kaufbeuren (Bavaria), is an international non-governmental organization funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development. In Lebanon, humedica runs one Mobile Medical Unit (MMU) serving approximately 35 informal tented settlements (ITS) in the Bekaa valley, providing free primary health care and medication for Syrian refugees. In addition, humedica is supporting Primary Health Care Centers (PHCs) (under the administration of the Ministry of Public Health) for both Lebanese and Syrian patients.

Main Duties & Responsibilities:

• Medical consultation for common acute illnesses and dispensing acute medications in the informal tented settlements (ITS)
• Provide diagnosis and counseling to each patient and determine and take responsibility for follow-up care needed.
• Treatment of uncomplicated infectious diseases (diarrhea, dysentery, STI, etc.)
• Potentials of communicable disease outbreaks.
• Stabilization services of emergency health conditions and immediate referrals to nearest PHC centers or hospitals after stabilization.
• Participate actively in the monitoring and the reporting of medical activities (correctly fill in patient files, forms, statistics, and reports).
• Follow-Up on selected individual patients in coordination with the Health Coordinator, Special Case Officer, and Specialists
• Health promotion, including health services available in the PHC centers and hospitals.
• Awareness and knowledge of referral options and pathways.
• Flexibility to support other tasks related to MMU services if needed

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

• Starting date: ASAP
• Contract: Until October 2022
• Working hours: 8.30 am– 5:00 pm, one-hour lunch break
• Basic salary $2500 plus benefits (e.g. lunch allowance, family benefits, transport allowance) based on experience.
• Post based in the humedica office in Zahle, Central Bekaa. With your team (doctor, pharmacist, field officers, nurse), you will visit one to two different tented settlements each day.

Skills & Competencies:

• Qualified Medical Doctor and license to practice in Lebanon + syndicate
• Experience working with NGOs is helpful, but not mandatory
• High motivation for challenging and complex tasks and good common sense
• High ethnical standards
• Strong skills in communication, mediation, and cooperation
• Ability to work in challenging conditions (e.g. tent, weather, noise) and to cope with challenging security context
• Ability to work as part of a team and participate in all activities of the MMU
• Ability and willingness to work in a multi-cultural environment
• Flexibility, reliability
• Fluent Arabic and good English language skills are mandatory
