The Institute for War & Peace Reporting (IWPR) is an independent not-for profit organisation that works with media and civil society to promote positive change in conflict zones, closed societies, and countries in transition around the world. Under the project entitled Alternative Voices Syria, which is funded by the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs, IWPR works with Syrian reporters, bloggers and activists to support freedom of expression and Human Rights. The work focuses on empowering women in rural areas, supporting advocacy campaigns and providing trainings on Digital Security, Advocacy and Conflict-Sensitive Journalism.

In that regard, IWPR seeks a graphic designer to design the cover of its Conflict Sensitive Journalism Manual. The graphic designer will work closely with the IWPR editor to understand what type of design will be required. S/he will also be required to design small illustrations inside the book, as instructed by the editor.

Scope of Work:

Prepare a schedule of work

Implement IWPR’s branding policy

Deliver creative and innovative ideas for the CSJ Manual cover and illustrations

Design the CSJ Manual cover and illustration

Qualifications:

  • University degree in graphic design, or similar.
  • At least three (3) years of progressively advanced graphic design experience.
  • Strong theoretical and practical background in graphic design.
  • Show a clear and mature style of design, demonstrating an understanding of the communication requirements of an international agency.
  • Proven experience of graphic production from start to published/printed product with
  • knowledge of printing processes (offset and digital) and colour management.
  • Good understanding of new and evolving technologies and digital platforms.
  • Working experience in development or humanitarian environment is desirable.
